Copper Whale Inn

The Copper Whale Inn is the perfect home away from home in Anchorage. The location is ideal, you can walk to everything downtown. They provide breakfast with lots of different options, way more choices than a typical hotel breakfast. You can also sit and enjoy the "living room" anytime throughout the day. Luggage storage which is so handy if you arrive early or are in Anchorage for the day before going to the airport. If you're looking for authentic Alaskan hospitality you will find it here. Each room is unique and has everything you need.

The most outstanding and friendliest staff! Rooms were comfortable and location was perfect. Highly recommend Cult Classic Croissants right next door for a mid-morning pick me up.

Comfortable, clean rooms with all the amenities you could want. I felt safe as a solo traveler and was happy to support a queer, women-owned, local business!

So lovely. Excellent communication, clean rooms, comfortable bed and bedding. Delicious breakfast. Stored our luggage until we departed. Would definitely stay again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed at the Copper Whaler Inn in early September and were very disappointed, especially given the positive reviews and the $390 nightly rate. We stayed in the Garden Room, which was extremely small — there wasn’t even space to lay out our small suitcases. The bathroom floor had hair on it, and overall the room did not feel properly cleaned, with items stored inside. Unfortunately, we would not recommend Copper Whaler Inn.

We absolutely loved our stay! Our “speakeasy” themed room was beautifully decorated, thoughtfully stocked, and perfect for our two-night visit. The inn’s location couldn’t be better, but what truly stood out was the warm, attentive staff who made us feel right at home. Highly recommend!

My fiancé and I took our first trip to Alaska, and we stayed here for a total of three nights: one at the beginning and two at the end of our trip. The best way I can describe this place is that we are staying with old family friends in their large cozy house by the beach. It’s quaint, clean, and inviting. Lorene is great. She texted me a couple of days before check in with instructions on how to get into our room. She also asks that you text her upon arrival so she knows you’re safe. Which is something we greatly appreciated as travelers. The breakfast options are really nice (fresh fruit, oatmeal, cereal, toast, etc). The hotel is located downtown which makes a variety of places very walkable. As for the limited drawbacks, as other reviewers have mentioned, it’s by a busy street so you’re bound to hear some street noise. And depending on the room you’re in, you may have to share a bathroom with one other room - which wasn’t as bad as we feared. There are two bathrooms (one full, one half) which are located in a hallway. It’s pretty easy to tell if someone is in there. For us, this was the best place we’ve stayed at in Alaska, and tbh, one of the best places we’ve stayed at compared to those in our own home state. If you’re looking for a very reasonably priced hotel with personality, this is it.

Rooms are nice and clean. Had to open the window up because it was a bit warm. The noise is awful. Sounds like an active construction site all night long. Constant knocking and electrical tools. Also double check the electrical outlets because some of them don’t work.

Stayed with family at the copper whale inn and had a great time. We stayed in 3 different rooms all of which had themes. I personally stayed in “speakeasy” and it was fabulous. Right as you get there you get a little history lesson as well as info on places to go and things to see, all of it was useful. I admire the passion of the employees that make sure everyone knows they are welcome. The location is right by the water and a few blocks from a number of bars and restaurants. The breakfast was also wonderful with a lot of fresh fruit and options. They also do a great job making sure there are options for everyone including gluten free breads. I was only able to stay for one night but would have loved to stay longer. Our flight did not leave until after check out so we were able to store our luggage throughout the day. The only con is that it is on a somewhat busy street so you might get some noise if that is an issue for anyone who needs silence to sleep. Would absolutely recommend this place, so glad I didn’t stay at a big box hotel!

Small rooms, hard to find a place for our suitcases. Biggest issue was the noise. The room was warm, opened window and heard lots of close by road noise. At 4:30 AM, adjacent rooms were loud, thump. thumping suitcases down the stairs. We asked if there was an alternative room and the manager shrugged.
