Carnival, Provincetown'ın yazın en yoğun geçen gay haftasıdır: Ağustos ayının üçüncü haftasında sekiz gün süren, tek bir kostüm teması ve tek bir geçit töresi etrafında şekillenen bir etkinlik. Provincetown Business Guild, 1978 yılında sakin bir Ağustos haftasını doldurmak amacıyla tek günlük bir etkinlik olarak başlattı ve şimdi tüm şehri ele geçirmiş durumda.
Geçit töresi ücretsizdir ve Perşembe öğleden sonra, Harbor Hotel yakınlarından başlayıp Commercial Street boyunca şehir merkezinden West End'e kadar devam eder. İnsanlar sabah erken saatlerde kaldırıma sandalyeler koyarak yer tutarlar. Haftanın geri kalanı partilerle geçer: Boatslip'teki açılış partisi, Crown & Anchor'daki kostüm balosu, çay dansları ve drag şovları, çoğunlukla biletli veya giriş ücretli etkinliklerdir. Konukevleri bir yıl öncesinden dolmaya başlar ve genellikle minimum konaklama şartı aranır, Boston'dan gelen feribotlar da dolar.
Guild, Provincetown Independent'ın bildirdiğine göre, 2023 geçit töresi için Commercial Street'te 150.000 kişi tahmin etti. Bu, 4.000'in altında sabit nüfusa sahip bir şehir için organizatörlerin sayısıdır ve bağımsız bir sayım bulamadık. 48. Carnival, 15-22 Ağustos 2026 tarihleri arasında Deep Sea Disco temasıyla düzenlendi ve geçit töresi 20 Ağustos Perşembe günü yapıldı. Kontrol ettiğimizde 2027 teması ve tarihleri henüz açıklanmamıştı.

Stake out a spot on Commercial Street by early afternoon on Thursday; the parade route fills fast.
Leave the car in Truro or at the airport lot and use the shuttle — the West End is closed to traffic during the parade.
