Gay bars and clubs in Phnom Penh (checked October 2026)
Phnom Penh's gay bars are small, cheap and close together. Nearly all of them sit in Daun Penh between the National Museum and the riverside, so you can walk between most of them in ten minutes. Here is what is open, based on Utopia's February 2026 listings, The Globetrotter Guys' October 2026 guide, Nomadic Boys and the venues' own pages.
The regulars
Blue Chilli · #126 Street 130. Open since 2006 and the best-known name in town. It moved from Street 178 in December 2023. Drag shows run at around 22:30 from Wednesday to Saturday; Friday and Saturday fill up first. Google lists it open from 18:00 until late.
Space Hair Salon & Bar · #66 Street 136. A hair salon by day and a gay bar from about 19:00, open since 2013. Cocktails, DJs playing R&B, 80s and pop, and a mixed local and foreign crowd. A good first stop.
Toolbox · #12E Street 174, between Street 51 and Norodom. Industrial look, pool table, early two-for-one happy hour and an all-male dance show from about 22:00. It moved here in 2024; its team used to run Rainbow Bar. Travel Gay lists a darkroom. Open 18:00–02:00.
POC Lounge · 129 Preah Ang Yukanthor Street (Street 19), near the Royal Palace. "POC" stands for Pride of Cambodia. Open daily 17:00–04:00, with DJs and drag or other performers on Friday and Saturday and a mostly local crowd.
New in 2026
CockPit Bar · #21A Street 148. Opened on 1 October 2026, open 19:00–02:00, mostly men.
AsianCam. A small gay bar from 2026. Google lists it at #82Eo Street 244; earlier listings give Street 222, so check its Instagram before you go.
Leela's Lesbian & Queerspace · No. 68 Street 130. Opened in September 2026 and calls itself Cambodia's only official lesbian and queer space. Closed on Mondays.
Hideaway · Street 163. Its website says it opens in November 2026, with a monthly drag cabaret planned. Not open when we checked.
Late night
Heart of Darkness · 38 Street 51 (Pasteur Street). Not a gay bar but a gay-owned mixed club that has been around for decades. When the gay bars close, a lot of their crowd moves here. Google lists it from 21:00 to about 03:00, later on Friday and Saturday. Street 51 is rowdy late at night; book a ride home.
Gone but still Googled
- Rainbow Bar on Street 136 has closed (the same team now runs Toolbox).
- Classic and Valentino's (Street 174) are closed.
- Pontoon is still a nightclub, but its Thursday drag night is from years ago.
- Kute on Bassac Lane appears in only one listing; we couldn't confirm it is open.
- Drinks are cheap and prices are usually in US dollars.
- Most bars close around 2am; POC stays open until 4am.
- Keep your phone out of sight on the street; motorbike snatching is common near the riverside.
- Some bars have "money boys". Prostitution is illegal in Cambodia, and ages can be hard to judge.
