The honest picture

Aruba's a place where labels just don't stick. Collecting shells on Eagle Beach or holding hands at sunset on Palm Beach feels completely natural. Locals treat LGBTQ+ tourism with total respect. The tourism board even runs its own LGBTQ+ nightlife page. On July 12, 2024, the Dutch Supreme Court — in a ruling won by Fundacion Orguyo Aruba after a five-year fight — made marriage equality the law. Nineteen same-sex couples married in the first year. "One Happy Island" is one of those rare slogans that's just true.

Know the island's four zones

Palm Beach is the high-rise strip: big resorts, the nightlife mile, beach bars, and parties. Eagle Beach, often ranked among the world's best, is the wide, calm opposite. Luxury adults-only boutique resorts cluster here; it's the couples' zone. Oranjestad, the capital, means colorful Dutch-colonial architecture and shopping — and the CAGE. San Nicolas, the southern quarter, is the island's art district: murals down Main Street, exhibitions, cultural pop-ups, and open community events.

The welcoming spots, by name

CAGE Nightclub in Oranjestad is the island's central queer club. It's home to the Cage Dolls, Aruba's #1 drag lip-sync production, every Thursday (doors 8:30 pm), plus lively weekend parties. Around it, here's what actually serves a traveler: Boardwalk Boutique Hotel on Palm Beach — adults-only casitas, an official IGLTA member, deeply romantic for couples. Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort on Eagle Beach is the adults-only luxury flagship, known for how it welcomes same-sex couples and honeymooners. Moomba Beach Bar is where you get the classic seafront sunset cocktail and live music mid-strip. Bugaloe Beach Bar & Grill on the De Palm Pier is a wooden bar over the reef, with salsa nights and famously open staff. Bohemian Bar & Restaurant is a French-bohemian garden spot with crafted cocktails and a fashionable, community-open crowd. Gusto Nightclub on the main boulevard has a young, mixed, late-night dance floor. The Renaissance Wind Creek Resort in Oranjestad has its private Flamingo Island and leading corporate equality policies. And the San Nicolas Art District is for the island's cultural, community-minded south.

A perfect Aruba evening

Sunset: a cold drink at Bugaloe over the reef as the sun drops. Dinner: the bohemian garden at Bohemian. Night: drag and drinks with the Cage Dolls at CAGE in Oranjestad. That's the local rhythm.

Aruba Pride — June

Aruba Pride, put on by the Aruba Gay Guide platform since 2021, happens in early June. Recent editions have included a parade, parties, and the "Aruba on FIYAH" queer ballroom night. It's young and growing, with the tourism industry supporting it, not fighting it.

The digital scene

Apps are used openly. The grid is tourist-heavy around Palm Beach and more local toward San Nicolas. No discretion regime is needed in the resort zones.

Practical notes

Weather advantage: Aruba sits south of the Caribbean hurricane belt. It's a safe, sunny bet year-round, unlike almost every other island in the region. Money: The Aruban florin (AWG) is local currency, but US dollars are accepted everywhere at a fixed rate (about 1.75-1.80 AWG). Direct flights come from both US coasts and Amsterdam. Arikok National Park is for the wild side, and the honeymoon machine runs happily — and genuinely — for everyone.
