Residence Inn by Marriott Salem

This hotel is really lacking compared to other Residence Inns, especially in terms of maintenance, care and cleanliness. The gym looked like it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned in months, with cobwebs and dead bugs. The “store” to buy necessities or snacks is basically non-existent, the highway traffic is extremely loud, and the woman working the front desk in the morning didn’t want to be bothered to deal with a large scared dog with no collar running around the hotel property and said she wasn’t going to do anything about it. The woman at check-in was very friendly and the breakfast is good. However, I won’t stay at this hotel again.

Residence Inn by Marriott in Salem was disgusting! Our room (suite # 308) smelled like natural gas to start with. The toilet overflowed. The room was not clean and someone else’s dirty underpants and sweatpants were found in the dresser drawer. Yuk!! The breakfast was not good and no forks were available so ate cold eggs with a spoon. Yuk!! I talked to the desk person and they assured me a manager would call but nobody has reached out so they clearly don’t care. Will not return and will certainly not recommend.

The hotel is very nice, but they changed our room without updating us.

They wont waive a now show fee/cancellation even for someone who stays at Marriots for 20+ days of the year for the past 3 years. I had error, and reserved this Residence inn instead of the one in Medford. Called the next day and asked for them to waive it since I never checked in. I'll got back to Hiltons and Best Westerns I guess.

A first for us: our reserved room was unavailable when we arrived to check in, and the hotel had to send us to a Best Western down the street instead. We had booked a two-bedroom suite for three adults and a 14-month-old. The front desk attendant seemed to think the equivalent solution was a single room at the nearby motel. When we explained that a single room was not an acceptable substitute for the two-bedroom suite we had specifically reserved, we were met with very little effort to find a reasonable solution. What was especially frustrating was the lack of communication. We received absolutely no advance notice: not a phone call, email, text message, or even a message through the Marriott app. With so many ways to contact guests, it is hard to understand how we arrived at the property only to find out that our room was unavailable. And being told we had “good news and bad news” was particularly tone-deaf. There was no good news from our perspective. we had a confirmed reservation and arrived expecting the room we had booked, only to be sent away to another property. At 10 pm. With a baby. Overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. If having your reserved room available at check-in is important to you, I would think twice before booking this property.
