Gay Saunas in Sydney
Sydney's gay bathhouses sit within the Oxford Street / Darlinghurst gay precinct rather than Kings Cross, with one long-running cruise venue further west at Rydalmere. All are men-only, sex-on-premises venues. Entry typically runs AUD 25-40 and usually includes a locker or private cabin, towels and access to the wet areas.
Sauna X (Darlinghurst)
Sauna X, at 10 Taylor Street just off Taylor Square, is the central Darlinghurst bathhouse. It operates on the site of the former Bodyline / "357" sauna and reopened under LGBTIQ ownership after a full remodel, trading seven days a week. Facilities include a dry sauna, steam room, spa, private cabins and cruise areas. Its position a minute from Oxford Street makes it the most convenient option for visitors staying near the scene.
Sydney Sauna (Oxford Street, Darlinghurst)
Sydney Sauna, on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, is a compact two-level venue with around 23 private rooms, a sauna, steam and spa, and it runs 24 hours. It is a straightforward, centrally located option in the heart of the gay strip.
Aarows (Rydalmere)
Aarows, at 17 Bridge Street in Rydalmere in Sydney's western suburbs, is the city's largest cruise venue, spread over three levels with 50-plus private rooms alongside sauna, spa and steam facilities. It is well away from the inner-city precinct — roughly 20 km west of the CBD — so it mainly serves locals from the west rather than passing tourists, but it is a genuine option if you are in that part of the city.
A note on closures
Ken's at Kensington, once Sydney's best-known bathhouse, closed permanently in 2012 after some four decades; the building is no longer a sauna, so ignore any legacy listings that still show it as open.
Practical notes
Most venues take contactless payment and provide towels and lockers. Weekends and Mardi Gras season (late February to early March) are the busiest times. For the wider scene, see the Gay Sydney Guide and the Sydney gay bars guide.
