Late afternoon in the desert: the San Jacinto mountains turn pink, someone flips a towel over a lounger, and all you hear is the pool filter and a mister hissing over the patio. A few thousand kilometres away, the same hour on Gran Canaria smells of sun cream and bougainvillea, with the dunes just out of sight. Men-only gay resorts are a small, ageing and surprisingly durable corner of travel. Some of the classics have closed or been sold in the last two years, but Palm Springs and Maspalomas still have clusters of them, Key West and Fort Lauderdale keep a handful, and elsewhere the term is often stretched to cover hotels that are merely gay-popular. This guide separates the two.

Legal in one line: every hotel in this guide is in a country where sex between men is legal; nudity is a matter of house rules inside the walls, and local public-indecency laws apply the moment you step outside.

What "men-only" and "clothing-optional" mean

Men-only is a booking policy: rooms are sold to adult men, and visitors (where allowed) are men too. It is set by each property, not by law, and wording varies: "gay men's resort", "caters to men" or "for men" on booking sites usually signals the same thing, but not always. Expedia, for example, tags some properties "Caters to Gay Men" or "Caters to Men" in the hotel name.

Gay-friendly or gay-focused hotels welcome everyone. Axel Hotels, Alexander's in Key West and AxelBeach Maspalomas fall into this group: the crowd may be mostly gay men, but women and straight guests can book.

Clothing-optional means you may be nude in shared areas. Some resorts are nude everywhere; others limit it to the pool, a hot-tub courtyard or a roof terrace. Out x Out notes that the clothing policy is always stated on the property's own site, which is the place to check.

How to read this guide: we only list properties that independent sources described as operating in 2025 or 2026. Policies change with owners, so treat every "men-only" and "clothing-optional" label below as a reason to check the hotel's own terms, not a guarantee. We don't quote room prices, and we don't rate properties.

United States

Law: same-sex marriage has been legal nationwide since 2015; nudity is allowed on private property out of public view, but not in public spaces.

Palm Springs and Cathedral City, California

Palm Springs has the largest group of men's resorts in this guide. After the Canyon Club closed in December 2025, the Bay Area Reporter counted ten gay resorts left in Palm Springs, plus CCBC in neighbouring Cathedral City. Most are small, walled, pool-centred properties in or near the Warm Sands neighbourhood, and most market themselves to adults. You can browse them on GayOut's Palm Springs hotels page.

  • Santiago Resort: described by Nomadic Boys (June 2026) and Visit Greater Palm Springs as a clothing-optional resort for gay men.
  • INNdulge: a men's clothing-optional resort, according to Nomadic Boys and the regional tourism board.
  • Desert Paradise Resort: a gay men's clothing-optional resort; Nomadic Boys says it caters only to men.
  • El Mirasol Villas: Nomadic Boys calls it a gay men's resort and says it has been gay-only since 1975.
  • The Hacienda at Warm Sands: a men-only, clothing-optional resort with just nine suites (Nomadic Boys), so book early.
  • Vista Grande Resort: a clothing-optional gay men's resort, according to the tourism board and The Palm Springs Guys.
  • Triangle Inn: eight suites in a walled compound; the tourism board describes it as clothing-optional living for gay men.
  • Twin Palms Resort: described as a men's resort and clothing-optional.
  • Descanso Resort and Casa Oliver (the former All Worlds Resort): both appear on 2025–26 lists of men's clothing-optional resorts. The Palm Springs Guys (December 2025) says Casa Oliver offers day and night passes.
  • CCBC Resort Hotel (Cathedral City Boys' Club), Cathedral City: a gay men's clothing-optional resort with day and night passes. The Palm Springs Guys calls it the area's largest clothing-optional resort.

Other properties appear on some 2026 lists, such as Tortuga del Sol and La Dolce Vita, but we found only one source for each, so check them directly.

Key West, Florida

  • Island House: men-only and clothing-optional throughout (Nomadic Boys, June 2026; Out x Out, July 2026), adults-only, and sells day passes. See GayOut's Key West hotels page.
  • New Orleans House: listed by Nomadic Boys in 2026 as men-only and clothing-optional.
  • Alexander's Guesthouse: gay-run but welcomes all genders; some shared spaces, including the sundeck, are clothing-optional. It isn't men-only.

Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors, Florida

  • The Grand Resort and Spa: Out x Out (July 2026) lists its pool deck as clothing-optional; Nomadic Boys described it as male-only in 2024, with a clothing-optional hot-tub courtyard and a front pool where nudity isn't allowed.
  • The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa: on the New River, a short ride from Wilton Manors. Out x Out (2026) calls it an adults-only men's guesthouse with a clothing-optional pool.
  • Pineapple Point: in Victoria Park. Nomadic Boys described it in 2024 as male-only and fully clothing-optional; it was still listed in 2026, but confirm the policy when you book.

Cherry Grove, Fire Island, New York

The Belvedere Guest House for Men, Cherry Grove: listed by Travel Gay under that name. It's a summer-season property reached by ferry; check opening dates and house rules for the season you plan to visit. See GayOut's Fire Island hotels page.

Closed or changed

  • Canyon Club Hotel, Palm Springs: closed on 8 December 2025 after it was sold to the owners of Terra Palm Springs. They plan to reopen it as a mainstream wellness resort with a public spa, expected in 2027 (Bay Area Reporter).
  • Equator Resort, Key West (822 Fleming St): closed for good in January 2025 (Nomadic Boys; Yelp and GayCities list it as closed).
  • AxelBeach Miami: closed after five years of operation (OutSFL).
  • Royal Palms, Fort Lauderdale: moved away from its gay-resort identity more than a decade ago, with a no-nudity "family-friendly" policy reported in 2014.

Spain: Gran Canaria and the Axel brand

Law: same-sex marriage has been legal in Spain since 2005; nudity is a house matter inside hotels, and many beaches near Maspalomas are traditionally naturist.

Maspalomas, Gran Canaria

Maspalomas has a large group of men-only gay bungalows and hotels, most of them bungalow complexes within reach of the Yumbo Centre, which is the nightlife hub. See GayOut's Maspalomas hotels page.

  • Seven Hotel & Wellness: gay men only and adults-only, with clothing-optional terraces and garden (Couple of Men, 2025; Nomadic Boys, July 2026). It markets itself as a four-star hotel.
  • Club Torso Gay Hotel and Resort: men-only and clothing-optional (Nomadic Boys, July 2026).
  • Rainbow Golf Bungalows: gay men only and clothing-optional throughout.
  • Villas Blancas: a gay men's resort with a clothing-optional environment.
  • Birdcage Resort: bills itself as a "gay men's lifestyle hotel"; clothing-optional (Couple of Men, 2025).
  • Atlantic Sun Beach: described in 2025 as a gay men-only complex with a clothing-optional pool area.
  • AxelBeach Maspalomas: gay-focused and adults-only, but "hetero-friendly" (Nomadic Boys), so not men-only.
  • Ritual Maspalomas: adults-only with a nudist area on the roof; it isn't marketed as men-only.

Couple of Men's 2025 list adds more small "gay men only" bungalow complexes, among them Villa Adler, Fahana, Tajinaste Beach, Bungalows Artemisa and Mar Bianco. Sources disagree on whether Vista Bonita is for men only or for gay guests of all genders, so ask before booking.

Axel Hotels (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and the AxelBeach resorts)

Axel dates its brand to 2003. It isn't men-only: it calls itself "hetero-friendly". It opened a 72-room hotel in Valencia in November 2025 and announced a second franchise on Crete, and it plans two more openings in 2026. For summer 2026 it promoted beach properties on Ibiza, Mykonos, Crete and Gran Canaria. Choose Axel for a gay-majority crowd and rooftop pools, not for a men-only house.

Sitges, Ibiza and the rest of Spain

Sitges and Ibiza have plenty of gay-popular hotels, but we found no independent 2025–26 source confirming a men-only, clothing-optional property in either. Take any "men-only" claim as unconfirmed until the hotel confirms it in writing.

Greece: Mykonos

Law: Greece legalised same-sex marriage in 2024.

Elysium, above Mykonos Town, is sold by tour operators as a gay hotel (one German operator calls it "Elysium Exclusive Gay Hotel"). We couldn't confirm a men-only or clothing-optional policy for 2026, so read it as gay-popular unless the hotel tells you otherwise. AxelBeach Mykonos is gay-focused but, like all Axel properties, open to everyone.

Mexico: Puerto Vallarta

Law: same-sex marriage is legal in every Mexican state; outside the hotel walls, public-decency rules apply.

Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romántica has a run of gay hotels, but men-only houses are rare. See GayOut's Puerto Vallarta hotels page.

  • Piñata PV: a small gay hotel listed by Travel Gay and GayPV, and on Black Gay Boy Abroad's October 2026 list of clothing-optional properties. Confirm the men-only policy when you book.
  • Casa Cupula: gay-owned and on the same clothing-optional list; we found no source calling it men-only.
  • Almar Resort: an adults-only LGBTQ+ beachfront resort, not men-only.

Asia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Law: same-sex relations are legal in Cambodia, but same-sex partnerships have no legal recognition.

Arthur & Paul: sold on Booking.com and listed by Frommer's as "Arthur & Paul (Men Only Hotel)"; Expedia tags it "Caters to Men". We couldn't confirm a clothing-optional policy. See GayOut's Phnom Penh hotels page.

Thailand

Law: Thailand's marriage-equality law came into force in January 2025; public nudity is an offence, so nudity belongs inside private property.

We found no independently confirmed men-only hotel in Pattaya or Phuket for 2026. The nearest thing is "Naked Thai", an all-male, clothing-optional villa concept in Phuket, promoted since 2024 by Everything to Sea, IGLTA and Two Bad Tourists. It has run as dated group weeks, so check whether a booking is for a set week or open stays.

Brazil

Law: same-sex marriage has been recognised in Brazil since 2013, and homophobia has been punishable under anti-racism law since 2019.

We couldn't confirm any men-only gay hotel in Brazil for 2026. Brazilian travel trade press argued as far back as 2014 that exclusively gay hotels struggle there, and today's options are mostly gay-friendly pousadas and private rentals. Ask hosts directly about clothing and guest policies.

Resort etiquette

The ritual is much the same from Warm Sands to Maspalomas. Put a towel on every lounger before you sit, and shower before the pool and hot tub. No photos where other guests are in frame, and some resorts ban phones by the pool entirely. Nudity doesn't mean consent: a no, or no answer, means no. Breakfast and evening "social hours" are where people meet, and the cue to join in is usually a hello, not a stare.

Practical tips

  • Book direct, or at least read the hotel's own terms. Men-only and clothing-optional rules are set out on the property's own site; third-party listings often shorten or drop them.
  • Age policies: most of these properties are adults-only, and minimum ages vary (18 or 21 are common), so check before booking, especially if you're under 21 in the US.
  • Visitors: many resorts don't allow unregistered guests, or only with a day or night pass and ID. Ask at reception before inviting anyone back.
  • Day passes are the cheapest way to try the format: Island House sells them, and CCBC and Casa Oliver have offered day and night passes. Some Palm Springs resorts sell extra passes during Pride or White Party weekends.
  • Small means sold out: many have fewer than ten rooms. Peak periods such as Palm Springs Pride (usually early November), Maspalomas Pride in spring and Winter Pride in Gran Canaria fill months ahead.
  • Sun and hydration: nude sunbathing means sunburn where you least want it. Bring high-factor sun cream, especially in the desert and the Canaries.
  • Sexual health: PrEP and condoms are your own responsibility; carry what you need, as hotel supply varies.

Status changes fast. Sales and closures (the Canyon Club in 2025, the Equator in 2025) can happen between booking and arrival. Reconfirm a week before you travel, and pay by card for some protection if a property closes.

A few useful words

  • Solo hombres (Spanish): men only
  • Ropa opcional / nudista (Spanish): clothing-optional / nudist
  • Solo adultos (Spanish): adults only
  • Só para homens (Portuguese): men only
  • Naturismo (Spanish and Portuguese): naturism

Frequently asked questions

What does men-only mean at a gay hotel?

It means the hotel takes bookings only from adult men, and usually only men may enter as visitors. It is a house policy, not a legal category, so read the hotel's own terms before you book.

Is a clothing-optional gay resort nude everywhere?

Not always. Some resorts are clothing-optional throughout, while others limit nudity to the pool, a courtyard or a roof terrace. Nudity stops at the gate: beyond the property, local public-nudity rules apply.

Can I bring a visitor or buy a day pass?

Sometimes. Island House in Key West sells day passes, and CCBC and Casa Oliver in the Palm Springs area have offered day and night passes. Unregistered visitors are often not allowed, so ask before inviting anyone back.

Are Axel Hotels men-only?

No. Axel is a gay-focused hotel brand that describes itself as hetero-friendly, so women and straight guests can stay. If you want a men-only house, choose one that says so in its own booking terms.

Which men's resorts have closed recently?

The Equator Resort in Key West closed in January 2025, and the Canyon Club Hotel in Palm Springs closed on 8 December 2025 after a sale. Always check a resort's current status before booking.
