Colonia Bolognese Beach

Passing by by chance, I remembered my "holidays," not in this but in similar colonies. Nothing beautiful. In the early 1960s, either they sent you there or you forgot about the sea. For a 5-6 year old, it was like entering a prison. I still remember the smell of the soup they gave you in an aluminum bowl like the prison in the Count of Monte Cristo, where you slept in dormitories with 25-30 beds and for snacks, bread and pears. On Saturdays, everyone lined up naked for the shower, where a corpulent lady would take you by the arm and sweep you up like a rug. Our parents thought they were doing us good because they said we needed fresh air to be comfortable in the winter. Now they are there as monumental archaeology, industrial archaeology, mental archaeology.

Aged 55/56, as a child, I was locked up here for a month, at the mercy of disinterested, incompetent, and abusive staff. Mandatory Sunday Mass standing in the sun, with children fainting from fasting for communion (!). Entire days spent huddled under awnings on the beach, taking a two-minute dip in a woolen swimsuit and drying off by rolling in the sand. Luckily, it was closed; I had nightmares for years.

Abandoned for years now, it's in a state of total neglect. However, it offers a variety of photographic opportunities for enthusiasts. Beware of unpleasant encounters, however, as the colony is a refuge for many people who don't always tolerate intrusions from curious onlookers and photographers.

It's amazing when you see such a beautiful but abandoned building next to civilization and life. And when you read the history of this building, it completely changes your understanding of history.

The building is completely abandoned, but the structure is sound and aesthetically pleasing. The windows are missing. Inside, everything is empty.
