Home St. Pierre is a budget hostel in Geneva's old town, right by St-Pierre cathedral. It is a mainstream hostel listed as gay-friendly, not a gay hotel, whatever older listings claimed. Facilities are simple: shared kitchens, a lounge, a rooftop terrace and free Wi-Fi. For Geneva, where hotel prices are steep, it is one of the cheaper ways to stay central, and the old town, lakefront and Plainpalais are walkable. Dorms and private rooms fill quickly in summer and during big conferences, so book ahead. Reviews average 4.4 from a small sample.

This hostel is wonderful. If you’re solo travel as a man and are wanting some place quiet with some character, go here. You are in the basement, but it is no problem. The showers and toilets are close. It has a kitchenette and a great view of the cathedral. The breakfast service wasn’t to the schedule, but this was not problem. The concierge was nice. It is relatively close to the shoppes, but a bit far from the train station.
