Hotel du Vin Bristol City Centre

I can’t say enough about the annual wine tasting we do at Hotel du Vin Sugarhouse in Bristol for my dad’s birthday. Every year, it’s such a personal and intimate experience in their wine cellar—so moody, so fun. We always get five different wines, paired with delicious nibbles, and Vincenzo, the sommelier, really brings it to life with his expert knowledge. Each time, we learn so much, and it’s a fantastic way to celebrate together. I’d wholeheartedly recommend it!

This happened on Sunday 11th of October, when your bar person switched off the coffee machine and your hotel manager is well aware as she was chatting to him as she went in and out the room behind the bar. Room service also declined to deliver coffee and we had to make-do with bottled water. Seriously, you can’t get a coffee after ten pm because the barman has closed the machine. Ridiculous. Not everyone drinks alcohol. The room was also tired and sad. While I appreciated the double shower, none of the radiator heating worked and we had to use an electric plug in heater. You obviously know the heating is broken and that is why you keep an electric heater in the wardrobe. The courtyard was littered with cigarette ends all over the ground and tables, both on the evening we arrived and afternoon when we picked up our cases. To deny this with a sarcastic reply Ian is pathetic. The booking is under my surname and I actually got married at the Hotel Du Vin in Tunbridge Wells, which runs at far higher standards. Come to think of it, the HDV in Glasgow is also of a far higher standard. Perhaps it’s down to poor management in Bristol.

Bring Ear Plugs! The Good The bedrooms are spacious & clean with large bathrooms & roll top baths. Hot water pressure is beyond excellent. On-site bistro serving a range of surprisingly good French inspired food & a rather good breakfast range. Contrary to what others have said I found the majority of staff, polite, happy & helpful. The Bad The walls are paper thin & the rooms lack AC. Fans do not make a room cooler, they warm them slowly. There is limited natural light in several of the rooms & the internal lights are rather dim. Opening windows is not an option as some room overlook the courtyard where everyone smokes. The patterned tiled floor in the bathrooms masked how dirty the floor is, especially around the edges. Plumbing is very noise with significant water hammer keeping me awake repeatedly throughout the night & throughout the morning. This is not the hotel for those who like to lay in! My stay was marred by a dog constantly barking along with an unreasonable level noise from both sides of my room. Returning early to your room is also unpleasant as many of the function rooms neighbour the bedrooms & every note of noise can be felt.

Had the most wonderful stay, Malgorzata (Gosia) the receptionist checked us in so welcoming and professional/ such a warm welcome, she was lovely. Our room was gorgeous, clean, spacious and comfortable. Food was delicious/ highly recommend the Sunday roast! The staff were great and an extra special shout out to Dan / Duty Manager - thank you Dan you were just Fab !

Stayed here on a wrk trip its was beautiful
