Wharf Chambers is a not-for-profit workers' co-operative at 23-25 Wharf Street, a few minutes east of Lower Briggate. It is a members' club: membership costs £1 a year, and members can sign in a guest. It runs a strict safer-spaces policy and is the main alternative to the commercial Freedom Quarter bars, hosting queer club nights, drag, cabaret and fundraisers between punk and experimental gigs. Most nights are not queer-specific, so check the listings at wharfchambers.org. Google lists it closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, open from 5pm Wednesday to Friday and from 3pm at the weekend, until 3am on Friday and Saturday. Rated 4.6 from about 650 reviews.

Decent venue with great sound but absolutely dire lighting and if you politely ask for better colours your request is met with distain..Bands love decent footage for promo but not pink and green faces 😞
