Old Compton Street 橫貫 Soho，東西向延伸，自 1980 年代起便是倫敦男同志酒吧場景的核心。The Admiral Duncan、Comptons、鄰近的 The Duke of Wellington，以及林立的咖啡館與商店，使其成為在 West End 展開夜生活的預設起點。傍晚時分與週末最為熱鬧，飲酒者們常會湧上人行道。
1999 年 4 月 30 日，極右翼激進分子 David Copeland 在 54 號的 The Admiral Duncan 引爆了一枚釘子炸彈。事件造成三人喪生——Andrea Dykes、Nik Moore 和 John Light——並使數十人受傷。他被判處無期徒刑。重建後的酒吧內設有紀念碑悼念受害者，每年週年紀念日都有人們聚集在那裡追思。
