Mercure Milton Keynes Hotel

Lovely getaway hotel with a lovely environment

We checked in on way to concert in London. Put bags in room and left. When we returned at 12.30 am the room was like a fridge with the air con left on. Took ages to warm up. But worst was 2 of the pillows had clumps of hairs on them. Rang down to the 24 hour reception 3 times but no answer and just went to voicemail after god knows how many rings. So ended up using q pillow each. Wasn't confident about rest of cleanliness due to pillow but we were tired so just tried to sleep. I did email the hotel on the night too. But obviously no response just for the record I'm bald so they weren't my hairs.

Had a pleasant one night stay in the Mercure MK. Pros: Friendly reception, nice decor in restaurant and bar area. Free parking and WiFi. Good price with early booking. Perfect stay for a conference. Cons: Bar lad was a bit moody, carpet on stairwells is pretty run down. Multiple minor damage in the rooms (e.g. hole in the painting, lampshade falling apart). Not much within easy waking distance.

Couldn't fault the service, staff were lovely. Great choice for breakfast and cooked well. Slept well. Would recommend.

Overall our stay was good. The bar service was great, the whole place clean, tidy and felt nice and was nicely decorated. There's an open air seating area in the centre of the hotel which is available for guests to sit out next to the bar, upto 11pm with various seating available, umberellas, tables and festoon lighting. The reason for the low score on the room was possibly very specific to our room, maybe very few others. The inverters for the airconditioning was situated right above our room window and as the aircon ramped up and down every few minutes it was disturbing and I barely slept and spent at least 3 hours laying awake getting more stressed as the minutes ticked by, knowing I had to be up for a long day at 6am. It sounded like a car was being driven to our window, left idolling for a few mins, then driven off. The installation above our window was for many rooms, not just our aircon, as we didnt have ours on. If the aircon was continuous, (maybe a lower speed?), rather than flicking on and off, the continuous hum would have been less disturbing and we probably could have been able to tune it out. Again, this may be restricted to only a handful of rooms, it was only this one thing that was a negative for me.

Love this hotel we are local so great to just pop in for coffee or a meal. We had our anniversary party here it was lovely.
