Barraca Cabumba is an open-air beach bar on Praia do Futuro, Fortaleza's main beach strip. It has table service on the sand and is known locally as the gay-friendly barraca, where much of the LGBTQ+ crowd ends up on the beach. It is a mixed beach club rather than a dedicated gay venue, and it rates 4.2 on Google from about 800 reviews. Thursday night caranguejada (crab) is a Fortaleza tradition, and Sunday afternoons draw the biggest crowds. Praia do Futuro is spread out, so take a taxi or app ride and don't walk the beach after dark.

The place is okay, but the service wasn't good. Besides the long wait for a coconut and a glass of ice, one of the dishes was wrong, and when the correct one arrived, it had a stone inside, and the owner just apologized! The waiters who served us don't use order slips, they rely on their memory, which isn't very good, and they also take a long time to come to the table!

For me, the best beach bar in Fortaleza, a network of very attentive waiters, especially the cheerful Shirlei, the crab and the tripe stew are very good, and the musical style is of excellent taste.
