Gay bars in Cleveland (checked October 2026)

Cleveland has six LGBTQ+ bars, and five of them are on the West Side, along Detroit Avenue, Clifton Boulevard and Lorain Avenue. The sixth, the Leather Stallion, is just east of downtown. Older guides that send you to the Warehouse District or downtown clubs are out of date. Each bar below has current listings (Out x Out, Travel Gay or Cleveland Scene's 2026 Best LGBTQ+ Bar vote) and Google shows each one as open.

Detroit Avenue and Edgewater

Twist Social Club

Twist Social Club at 11633 Clifton Boulevard is the biggest gay bar in town and the one that gets busy at weekends. Cleveland Scene readers voted it Best LGBTQ+ Bar/Club in 2024, 2025 and 2026. DJs play every weekend, and the week also has drag, trivia and karaoke. It opens at 3pm on weekdays and 10am on Saturday and Sunday, and closes at 2:30am.

The Hawk

The Hawk at 11217 Detroit Avenue has been a gay bar since 1976, when it opened as the Tomahawk. It's a quiet dive with a pool table, a jukebox and a rear patio, open from noon to 2:30am every day.

No Class

No Class next door at 11213 Detroit Avenue used to be the punk bar Now That's Class. It now runs as a queer venue: Yellow Scene called it "Cleveland's gay metal bar" in September 2025, and it was runner-up in Scene's 2026 LGBTQ+ bar vote. Its stage room is built over a skate half-pipe. The calendar mixes punk and metal gigs with drag shows, King of Drag and Dragula watch parties, the Sapphic Social night and the Berghain't techno party. Many shows are all ages.

Cocktails

Cocktails Cleveland at 9208 Detroit Avenue is a hangout bar with two pool tables, a small stage and a heated smoking patio. Out x Out lists drag on Friday and Saturday around midnight and karaoke on Wednesday and Sunday. It's open 11am to 2:30am daily.

West Park

Vibe Bar + Patio

Vibe Bar + Patio at 11633 Lorain Avenue has been open since 2011. It's a locals' bar with a large brick patio: pool league on Monday, karaoke on Tuesday, trivia on Wednesday and Sunday Funday from 3pm.

East of downtown

Leather Stallion Saloon

Leather Stallion Saloon at 2205 St Clair Avenue NE opened in 1970 and is Ohio's longest continuously operating gay bar. It's a leather and Levi bar with a pool table, a small dance floor and a patio that hosts Sunday cookouts in summer. It opens at 4pm (3pm Friday to Sunday). It's about 8 km from the West Side bars, so most people get a rideshare between them.

Also worth knowing

FLEX Spas Cleveland at 2600 Hamilton Avenue, near the Leather Stallion, is the city's only gay bathhouse, open 24 hours. The LGBTQ+ Community Center of Greater Cleveland at 6705 Detroit Avenue in Gordon Square runs game nights, groups and free HIV/STI testing, and organises Pride in the CLE on the first Saturday of June.

Closed or changed

    • Villafortè's Social Lounge (12524 Lorain Ave): closed; a different, non-gay lounge now uses the address.
    • Shade Nightclub (Old Brooklyn): closed.
    • Studio West 117 in Lakewood: closed 28 December 2025 (Ideastream).
    • Bounce / Hinge Lounge: closed November 2017.
    • CLAW, the leather weekend: held in Columbus in 2026.

Tips

Thursday to Saturday nights are busiest, and most bars close at 2:30am. Twist, The Hawk and No Class are within a short walk of each other around West 112th to 117th Streets. Cocktails and Vibe are a five-minute drive from there, and the Leather Stallion is across town.
