Gay Bars in Hollywood, Florida: The Honest Guide
Hollywood's a beach city on Florida's Gold Coast, sandwiched between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It's genuinely LGBTQ+-friendly, but don't come here expecting a thriving nightlife scene - there are no dedicated gay bars, clubs, or bathhouses.
Gay-friendly spots in Hollywood
Cloud 9 Lounge, at 7126 Stirling Road, is a laid-back karaoke bar that's lesbian-friendly and draws a mixed crowd. Octopus Garden, on Hollywood Boulevard, is a quirky pirate-themed dive bar with karaoke and go-go nights that's been welcoming gay, straight, bi, and trans patrons for over 20 years.
These spots are friendly, but they're not dedicated gay venues, so set your expectations accordingly. They're fun local hangs, not a gay nightlife district.
Where the real gay nightlife is: Wilton Manors
Head about 10 to 15 minutes north to Wilton Manors, where Wilton Drive is lined with LGBTQ+ venues. You'll find longtime favorites like Hunters, Rosie's Bar & Grill, and Georgie's Alibi Monkey Bar, alongside cocktail lounges, dance clubs, and drag shows. Neighboring Fort Lauderdale adds more bars, saunas, and a lively beach scene.
Pride and community
The Hollywood LGBTQ+ Council, founded in 2019, produces My Hollywood Pride, a free festival at ArtsPark at Young Circle in downtown Hollywood, held in late January. It's one of the first Prides of the year in the country. The largest regional celebration is Stonewall Pride in Wilton Manors each June.
Practical tips
Stay on Hollywood Beach for the sand and the Broadwalk, then drive or grab a rideshare up to Wilton Manors for a night out. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is about 15 minutes away. If nightlife's your main priority, consider staying in Wilton Manors or Fort Lauderdale and visiting Hollywood for the beach.
