The Silver Fox has been on Redondo Avenue since 1981 and bills itself as Southern California's first gay video bar. It is a neighbourhood bar for gay men, with screens playing music videos, friendly bartenders and a mixed-age crowd of regulars. Don't expect a dance club. It opens at 4pm on weekdays and at noon on Saturdays and Sundays, and closes at 2am every night. Afternoons are quiet and the room fills up later in the evening. It's a few blocks from the Broadway strip, where most of the city's other gay bars are.

Kind staff that offered me free cola with every drink which was amazing, including free soda water when I was stopping to check it out after a long walk. I would go early in the evening as I had a curfew where I live. However one time I think I was spiked and a guy seduced me and stole my phone so I never returned. I wish the patrons there were more sociable with me.

Fun gay bar with karaoke, gogo boys, sports leagues on Sunday afternoons, and good cocktails. Some of the bartenders know how to make classic drinks like the “Sidecar”. A beautiful patio with blooming bougainvillea and orchids. The owner obviously puts a lot of love into this gay bar.
