關於此地 Blue Gene's

This is our neighborhood bar and we couldn’t be more happy with all the memories we’ve made here. Whether you’re there for trivia or karaoke, the bar staff is always kind and down to make you a good drink. 10/10 recommend!

I actually really enjoy the vibe this place but I went in with a group of friends; we made a big trip out of it and we had signed up for the list and when we got there, he said that they were about to start a new round and he had already added us in before the new round. and in the time that we were there (for about TWO hours) WITH visitors from out of town, multiple people sang TWICE before we were even close to singing! AND - he sang a song himself!!! (Not to be rude, but a bit of a high horse situation?) I went, and I had asked him about it, and he gave us a time and we still did not get to sing even after the time had past, multiple times after asking. We let him know that we were not able to stay for multiple hours longer while we watched other people continuously perform. I asked if there was a reason why, and it was not due to tipping. We left and we were very Disappointed. We will not go back to Trey. I’ve had a good experiences on the weekends. For Wednesday night, they really prioritize, locals and people who they think that are their type but they do not like people who Come in just to sing and have a good time. I am a local From Utah, but I Recently moved to Salt lake. Unfortunately, we had thought that this would be a good place to bring visitors to, and it was not. We wanted to sing and people traveled a long way to meet up with our group. Tre; please do better. I even told him that we would tip him when we got to sing, and he still did not let us sing. Unfortunate. I wish I had a better experience. I’m only giving two stars because of my prior experiences with different karaoke jockeys. I felt bad with the way that we were all treated. The most unfortunate; is that he let Multiple people sing multiple times that were very basic And I’m not saying that there was anything wrong with that, but it was obvious that they had gone there often. We came with a group of people who genuinely love to sing, and are trained vocalist, and have incredibly beautiful voices to share, and they were not allowed the space to actually share their talent. No, I’m not trying to brag. I’m just expressing the fact that it was blatantly obvious that he did not care about anybody but people he probably knew and was friends with. NONE of the party we went with got to sing. Not a single one.

Drinks & friendliness are lacking which is all I really want in a bar. The front person was silent even after I said “hello!”, just stood there till I could get my ID out. The bartender was playful & attentive to the college-age crowd, not so much to others. But most unfortunately my beer on tap was warm so I ordered a vodka soda which was just a vodka water.

I've been to this place on Friday and Saturday. Friday is a much better night. They have a decent crowd and karaoke runs smoothly. Saturday, on the other hand, is a letdown. Fewer people, and karaoke is not carried out well. For example, it's supposed to start at 9, but the Saturday night KJ showed up 20 minutes late, and they acted like it was normal. They took their sweet time to set things up, while doing other things. Despite making us wait, they chose to sing a song themselves. Customers didn't get to sing until 9:40. After witnessing this, I am not surprised that this place isn't successful on Saturday. People who enjoy karaoke go to karaoke because they want to sing, not to have their time wasted. 40 minute delay is 10 songs/customers that won't get to sing that night. People go to karaoke to enjoy singing with their friends, not to watch a KJ act like a diva and put on a show by singing after making us all wait. Blue Gene's isn't making the right business move here. If they are using karaoke to attract customers, then they need to provide experiences that karaoke goers are looking for. Instead, they get disappointed and stop coming. They'd be more successful if they hire a better KJ than the current KJ (Hysteria, I think).

I found this to be an OK bar. It's rather small and narrow, so once it gets crowded, it becomes hard to navigate. Karaoke is rather disappointing. There's no good place to stand while you sing because the screen is directly across from the bar, so once the bar area is crowded with people ordering drinks, it's hard to sing without feeling like you are in people's way. It also doesn't help that it's right by the entrance. What's worse, their sound system is just awful. Muffled unclear sound, which makes it not very fun to sing. It's mostly young crowds in their 20s and 30s, FYI.
