EQUAL GROUND

EQUAL GROUND is Sri Lanka's leading LGBTIQ human-rights organisation, founded in 2004 by Rosanna Flamer-Caldera and based in Colombo. It is the country's most visible advocacy group and the organiser of Colombo Pride - held almost every year since 2005 - and the Abhimani Queer Film Festival, the island's only LGBTIQ film festival. Beyond its public events, EQUAL GROUND runs a confidential counselling hotline, psychosocial support, legal-aid referrals and the long-running campaign to repeal Penal Code Sections 365 and 365A. For LGBTQ+ visitors to Colombo it is the single most useful point of contact for community events, safety information and local resources. Because same-sex activity remains criminalised in Sri Lanka, its work is conducted with care, but the organisation itself operates openly and publishes its own contact details.
