Very cozy, upscale local food and very friendly service.

We were incredibly lucky to visit this special restaurant on my birthday and can say with complete conviction: it was the best service we have ever experienced. We came because we were craving refined Saxon cuisine, and the combination of culinary excellence and a Michelin star intrigued us. We received an incredibly warm and attentive welcome right from the start. Instead of a traditional menu, there was a chalkboard with a detailed and very personal explanation of each dish—a concept that perfectly suited this special place. The food was outstanding, the wine was equally superb 😅, and every course was a true delight. We sat outside in the lovely weather, but the interior also has a very special charm and an atmosphere that is truly unforgettable. If we lived in Leipzig, Schaarmidts would certainly be our regular haunt. Our very special thanks go to Ingo. Dear Ingo, thank you so much for this wonderful evening, your attention, your great recommendations, and your incredibly friendly and accommodating manner. It's immediately clear that you do your work with heart and passion, and that's precisely what makes the visit so special. Schaarmidts, combined with you, is simply invaluable. To get straight to the point: we seem to be among the few who don't find this restaurant "great." We were here for the first time during a visit to Leipzig. The service was very friendly. Perhaps due to the large number of guests, however, taking orders and receiving the food took a very long time. Regarding the food (saddle of lamb and sole): Fresh ingredients – unfortunately, prepared in a completely undifferentiated way. A side dish platter, which had to be ordered separately for €14.50 to avoid having to eat the sole "plain," was incredibly unimaginative. The Parmesan crust on the lamb was more like a grayish, salty paste. The dessert (crème brûlée) was delicious. However, at a price of €140 for two main courses, two glasses of wine, a dessert, and two coffees, one should be somewhat more satisfied overall. The atmosphere is apparently perceived more or less unanimously as "original" and "cozy"—a matter of taste. We felt more like we were in a large, overcrowded flea market stall—especially since there was a lot of cramped space in terms of tables and chairs. Conclusion: we wouldn't come back.

We (11 people) had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. An incredibly great atmosphere, a fantastic wine list, excellent cuisine, and best of all: an absolutely fantastic team! We fell in love not only with this restaurant, but with Leipzig as a whole. Schaarschmidts Restaurant played a big part in that.

I want to be clear the food and the service were really great. The waiter and host were both very friendly and helpful, and the food tasted great. The reason I gave this 3 stars was the interaction I had at the end. After my meal was finished and I went to pay, the male waiter put a receipt in front of me and said “In Germany tip isn’t included in the bill, what will you add” then stared at me with the pen in his hand hovering the tip section waiting for me to tell him how much tip to put. The whole time he was just staring me down and waiting for me to tell him how much he will get as a tip. I want to put this in perspective, the table next to me was a group of European people from various countries all speaking a common language of English, but he did not do this to them at all. He let them pay and left them alone after. He 100% did this to me because I am an American and felt as though he could get one over on me. It made me super uncomfortable in that moment, even in America where tipping is required they don’t do this. To be clear, as I mentioned the service was great, and had he just left the receipt and not said anything about it, I would have had no problem tipping. This was so awkward and uncomfortable though, and it was a completely unnecessary way of asking for a tip. I would not come back next time I am in Germany and wouldn’t recommend it to other Americans visiting. As a Michelin listed restaurant they need to do better, treatment should be the same mo matter where you are from.

I felt very welcome, the service was almost entertaining, in the best possible way. The food was fantastic, and the wine (recommended) was a perfect match. I definitely had more than one bottle! :-) A wonderful experience, we'll be back!

We celebrated my mother's 70th birthday there. The ambiance is very stylish. However, don't expect a modern restaurant. Rather, everything is very cozy, almost with a certain "parlor" charm. The ambiance is consistent and cohesive throughout, including the interior doors to the restrooms, etc. That's really cool. // The restrooms are spotless. // The service is top-notch. One server is dedicated to your table all evening... and you won't want for anything. // The drinks and wine list is as thick as a book... for wine lovers, this restaurant is a "must-visit"! // The food is excellent... the selection of appetizers and main courses is limited and listed on a handwritten chalkboard, but the quality is first-class. // Anyone who wants a truly exceptional dining experience—and I don't mean the "usual standard"—must dine here! This restaurant definitely deserves 5/5 stars in every category. But beware... there's one tiny little drawback... it's not exactly cheap... PSS: The roulade sauce... amazing... I've never eaten such a good roulade sauce before... legendary!

We visited Schaarschmidts for the first time on Tuesday. We had partridge stuffed with pheasant and saddle of lamb—it was sensational. They really offer something different for the palate. And the waiter, with his friendly manner and excellent wine recommendations, made the evening wonderful. We will definitely be back!
