Molo Audace (Cruising)

Molo Audace is the long stone pier that reaches out into the Adriatic from Riva Tre Novembre, beside Piazza Unità d'Italia. By day it is one of Trieste's most beloved public promenades, where locals stroll to watch the sunset over the Gulf. After dark it doubles as the city's best-known gay cruising (battuage) spot, a discreet meeting point that Italian gay guides have listed for years. There is no venue or entry fee — it is open public space, so discretion and respect for other visitors are essential. Italy decriminalised homosexuality back in 1889 and public same-sex contact is legal, but as with any outdoor cruising area, stay aware of your surroundings and local sensibilities.
