Outstanding hotel with a very relaxed feel. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Unfortunately at the upper end of pricing, some observations. A two slice domestic toaster to serve a huge number guests and coffee served lukewarm at breakfast. A new TV system embedded in the mirror that had no sound and impossible to activate the streaming connection. Advised subsequently this was an ongoing issue. A lighting system in the room, whilst now very advanced, extremely awkward to fathom out and not ideal for the passing traveller. A tough button flush on the toilet that many elderly will not have the dexterity in their hands be able to operate. And yes, I know it’s perfectly legal in Europe, but two 240 volt sockets immediately beside the wash basin. ?? Really? - never in UK

Pleasant hotel in the upper price range, where the price is reflected in the service, and partly the food. There is a spa area with a couple of small pools and several saunas. Nice place to relax. The breakfast is excellent, and the house has several good restaurants. You just have to avoid the Brasseriet, which has very poor food and service in relation to the price.

Have you ever experienced almost choking in a 5-star hotel with a far too good reputation? Or getting sick and lying down vomiting after breakfast? We used to love this hotel. But now there were 2 employees who ruined everything. I got wholemeal bread in my throat during breakfast, and ran out of Palmehaven so as not to disturb while I bent over and coughed loudly in panic. Waitress Ragnhild saw this, I assumed she was coming after me, but she started to cover up while my son on crutches came after and saved me from choking with blows. After this I got sick and threw up 3 times. We called for help, which was humiliating. They sent an angry porter with a top hat who stood in our room and practically yelled at me in front of my kid. The top hat could call an ambulance, he said sarcastically. I thought more emergency room would have been appropriate, and was embarrassed enough already about the whole situation. When he just walked out the door, my son said afterwards: "And this is 5-star, mom?" In the conditions we were both in, there was not even help to get us home from the hotel. They thought the 11-year-old on crutches and me loose as a sheet would drag us to the train, or take a taxi. I had spent 1600 kr on Jonathan's grill to please the boy the night before, so I couldn't afford a taxi. So they could watch me choke, let my boy come down with my card and pay for the room while I was throwing up, and watch him struggle with his crutches, yell at me and also call this 5 stars. In fact. It was a new side to a hotel that we now know what hides if you need help. Behind the beautiful exterior there is a way of being treated that I can't find words for. I am irritated and sad afterwards. They advertise everything but this, and my boy cried with relief when we finally got home. Dear Britannia: Thank you for nothing, thank you for saving everything we had left for this nightmare. And thank you for surviving a breakfast we looked forward to for months. Maybe it was too expensive for your budget with both food poisoning from either the Grill or the breakfast? After the taxi? Aren't you so "perfect" then? Then you would have taken care of your guests, both children on crutches and adults who both choke and get sick. You get the feeling that you don't like the imperfection behind the perfect facade. Unfortunately, this was so bad that there are no more words than that there is an employee named Leif. Deal with him, and you will feel safe.

Fantastic hotel with a very good location in the middle of the city center. Nice and clean hotel rooms, good service, good selection if you want to order food to your room. The breakfast was also very good with a good selection of gluten-free options. The chef and waiters had good knowledge of celiac disease, so I was confident about the food.

Hotel is nice. Spa is not included in the rate and they charge you an additional 40USD per person. Breakfast is ok for vegetarians/vegans, but nothing special and during the week, breakfast finishes at 10am sharp and they kick you out shortly after. Location in Trondheim is great.

Really bad service already at the entrance,

Britannia is simply an experience. I like to stop by just to have a drink at the bar, which must be one of the best in Trondheim. Incredibly good atmosphere, great premises and talented people behind the counter. The grill in the basement is also crazy cool. Dark, stylish premises and really good food make it feel a little extra special to eat there. Even though the hotel is exclusive, the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. A place I always like to come back to, whether it's for a drink, dinner or just to enjoy the beautiful surroundings
