Had a great stay at The Rutland. Room was cozy, tidy, and clean. Staff was great across the board, with a special thank you to Hailey on breakfast. Super helpful and attentive. Hotel is also close to restaurants (five minute walk, give or take) and other amenities

Good hotel near university

Lovely hotel close to the city centre with flexible parking

Lovely hotel close to the hospital which was ideal for me to recover in after my day procedure. Attentive staff, good food, lovely rooms, free WiFi. Would definately stay again.

This is a difficult review to write because the staff were genuinely lovely, friendly, and doing their best. Unfortunately, several aspects of the stay made it far less comfortable than I’d hoped. I stayed here while meeting friends for a weekend away. My usual benchmark is a Premier Inn — nothing fancy, but reliably consistent — so I tend to compare other hotels to that standard. The building itself is beautiful from the outside, with a traditional look and on‑site parking. It was also around £20 cheaper than the next best option, which initially made it seem like good value. However, the first issue was the parking fee. There’s an additional £10 charge for overnight parking, and this doesn’t change even if you arrive late and leave early. It’s a flat rate regardless of how long you actually use the space. The room I stayed in was a “double”, but extremely small. The ceiling was incredibly low — so low that I couldn’t stand upright in parts of the room. The shower had the same problem, with the shower head sitting around shoulder height for me. Plug sockets were also an issue, with none near the bed. Because the room was very warm, I needed the fan (which the hotel kindly provided), but had to balance it on a chair and lie the opposite way around in the bed just to get some airflow. Sleep was difficult. The combination of heat, low ceilings, awkward layout, and lack of accessible sockets meant I had a very disturbed night and didn’t rest well at all. Another thing to be aware of is breakfast — if you haven’t booked it in advance, it comes with an additional charge on the day, which wasn’t made very clear beforehand. Overall, with the extra parking fee and the uncomfortable night’s sleep, I left wishing I’d chosen somewhere with air‑conditioning or simply a more practical room layout. I won't likely be back.
