Festa da Chiquita

The Festa da Chiquita is an LGBTQIAPN+ street party in Praça da República, in front of the Theatro da Paz, held on the Saturday night of the Círio de Nazaré weekend after the Trasladação procession passes. The singer and performer Eloi Iglesias created and still coordinates it, and it hands out the Veado de Ouro award. Organisers count 2026 as its 50th year, which puts the start around 1976.

It is protected as intangible cultural heritage by Belém (Lei Municipal 9.397/2018) and by the state of Pará (Lei Estadual 9.025/2020), and it has had a long, awkward relationship with the Catholic Church that runs the Círio. The 50th edition was on 10 October 2026. The Círio falls on the second Sunday of October, so the next Chiquita should be on Saturday 9 October 2027, but the date isn't confirmed. Expect a dense crowd: keep your phone out of sight.
