Coletivo Zé Maria

Coletivo Zé Maria is a grassroots LGBTQIA+ collective in Itapevi, founded around 2018 by local activist Fábio Dias. The group organizes social actions, cultural gatherings, and advocacy across the western São Paulo metropolitan region, and has run community initiatives such as free Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) classes. As Itapevi has no dedicated gay commercial venues, collectives like Zé Maria — alongside the municipality's own diversity programming — form the backbone of local LGBTQ+ community life, connecting residents with the wider São Paulo scene 30 kilometers to the east.
