I thankfully only stayed one night, but my room smelled moldy. The value is just not worth it for the price I paid.

Location is great, service was friendly and staff were helpful. The rooms are super expensive but rustic. Make sure this is the experience you want before booking.

I'm writing today about a rather unusual experience - a 5-star review without ever staying! The owner of the Vagabond's House Inn proactively called me to alert me about a series of floods and power outages in the area due to severe weather. He offered my husband and I full flexibility for day-by-day cancellation as the situation progressed, despite what I'm sure was a trying time for the business (several cancellations during a busy season). Ultimately, we ended up opting to stay elsewhere for our minimoon (that was less impacted by the weather), but this sort of care, craftsmanship, and decency puts The Vagabond House Inn at the top of our list.

UPDATE in response to the owner’s reply: 1. I guess because they did not like my negative review, they decided to share my private info of my name (which is not public on Google nor shared with businesses when I leave Google reviews). Of course they knew who it was based on context of this review, but it’s the fact they decided to share it is concerning and shows how they handle negative feedback - sharing customer’s private information on the internet. 2. I am a heavy sleeper, your soundproofing was cheap. 3. For $770+ for two nights, my stay should have been perfect this first time. ******** I stayed here over Thanksgiving holiday in their pet friendly ground level room #14 and I did not enjoy my stay. The walls of the room are paper thin and I could hear every footstep and every toilet flush from the people above me. I could hear the 6am FaceTime Thanksgiving day convo from the people in the room beside me. They were FaceTiming their family and wishing them Happy Thanksgiving. Definitely something I want to hear at 6am. From being woken up every day at 6am and the elephants above me until 12am, I barely got any sleep both nights I stayed. I could have camped outside in a tent and saved myself $770+ bucks. The private patio also has a running fountain and I could hear it all night too. Wish I could have turned it off so I didn’t have to hear water splashing either. The shower head sucks and needs to be tossed out. Weak pressure and you’re in the shower longer because the water pressure is so weak in rinsing all the soap off. Location is good and luckily the room was very clean and I did not find any bed bugs. The breakfast was basic for $770+ for two nights. I’ve stayed at older style places like this and the walls were never this thin and much nicer meals. I definitely won’t be staying here again and it was not worth the price.

If you are debating about booking here, just do it! Super cute. Very clean. Breakfast delivered to your room in the morning. Wine and cheese reception in the evening. Beautiful courtyard with string lights and fire pit. Walkable to town. We loved it!!

What a beautiful inn! We absolutely loved it and were almost sad that we'd only booked one night. It's incredibly cozy and relaxing, decorated with so much attention to detail, and the staff is so lovely. We definitely want to come back and treat ourselves to a room with a bathtub next time.

Sweet, European-style accommodations. Very walkable to town and not far from beautiful hikes. Amazing, friendly staff. Super welcoming to me and my dog. Downside is that the walls are thin, and if you get one of the downstairs units, it’s rather noisy when the unit upstairs is up and about. My dog hid under the bed the duration of our stay.

Perfect location to walk to anything. Great layout with the central courtyard/firepit, generously sized rooms, and we enjoyed breakfast being delivered each morning. Everyone was super friendly. Highly recommend!

The perfect spot for a solo vacation with my dog. It’s far enough from the main artery of Ocean Ave to be a bit quieter, yet entirely walkable to everything you’d want to do in Carmel. We stayed in room 8 and Larry was welcomed with treats and a nice pet blanket. The room was well appointed, very clean, blackout shades for privacy, heated bathroom floors and a fireplace. Bed was cozy and the 2 reusable bottles of filtered water a day are a nice touch! Staff is warm and friendly, and have great local recommendations. As other reviewers have noted, the breakfast you choose day 1 is your breakfast for the entire stay. However, you can absolutely go to the office and change it the day prior if you want. Breakfast service doesn’t start till 8:30 but if you’re up early, walk to Mad Dogs and Englishmen for a treat and coffee (and a pup cup!) The courtyard is dreamy, a great place to rest and reset between adventures. As with all inns in Carmel, the age of the property means it’s not soundproof. You’re going to hear people above you or outside. However, it’s not constant and you’ll be out exploring most of the time anyway! Easy and convenient parking both in the dedicated lot and on Dolores.

We really enjoyed our 3 nights here. Our favorite amenities were the fireplace in the room and the breakfast delivered to your door each morning. Everyone was helpful and kind and the place is super cozy. Would recommend for couples wanting a getaway within walking distance to everything in charming Carmel.
