There are places you stay… and then there are places and people that shape your life. The Bunk House in Breckenridge is both. I’ve known Mitch for nearly a decade, as a fellow mountain soul, friend and pushing the boundaries on our Jones snowboards, chasing big days, deep snow and meaningful conversations in the high country and now as the remarkable host behind one of the most special places to stay in Breckenridge. I’ve traveled extensively around the world staying in lodges, hotels, homes, hostels and castles. I can say without hesitation that the Bunk House stands apart. Perfectly located in the Rocky Mountains it offers immediate access to everything Breckenridge has to offer, yet still feels grounded, calm and deeply personal the moment you step inside. The lodge itself is rich with history and character beautifully cared for, thoughtfully maintained, always new updates and full of soul. You can feel the stories in the walls. It’s not just a place to sleep; it’s a place to be. What truly makes the Bunk House exceptional is Mitch. His kindness, authenticity and generosity of spirit aren’t performative, it is who he is, you'll see! For years, he’s been a steady source of encouragement, presence, laughter and genuine friendship to me and hundreds of people every year, on and off the mountain. That same energy defines the experience he creates for every guest at the Bunk House: welcoming, relaxed and real. That’s what I always experience. Mornings are unhurried. Conversations flow easily. Strangers become friends, then (fram-ily) Whether you’re coming back from a full day in the mountains, shopping in town or simply soaking in the atmosphere, there’s a rare sense of belonging here that’s hard to find and even harder to forget. In a world full of generic accommodations, the Bunk House is something meaningful. A place with heart, history and a host who truly cares. I’ll be back again and again. See you there! -Leo M.
OMG such a great host Mitch!
Unique friendly and comfortable accommodations with easy access to downtown Breckenridge and the surrounding area. Free bus service, bike path, or an hour walk to downtown.
One of the best places I've stayed.. i hope to come here again
This is a truly special place: there is so much history as well as comfort with the beautiful new robot toilet, showers, hot tub, etc. Mitch puts so much work into deliberately creating a welcoming and safe environment for everyone in the LGBTQ community and beyond. I've spent so many weekends of ski season here and it truly feels like having a second home in the mountains, feel peaceful and at home whenever I get in. Spent so many nights laughing hysterically playing cards with Mitch and other guests and made so many new friends here. If you want a boring, bland, or private vacation it may not be the best option for you but if you want something unique, inspiring and a feeling of being connected there is nowhere better then Bunkhouse Lodge. Location is also on easy free bus routes to get to Breckenridge or any of the other towns (halfway between downtown Breck and Frisco).
Five stars for the Bunk House Lodge and our host Mitch! The lodge is clean, cozy, and perfectly located for skiing. We were so grateful for Mitch’s hospitality; after a long day of flight delays and driving, he greeted us personally at 4:00 AM. It’s rare to find such a dedicated and kind host. If you’re looking for a well-maintained place near Breckenridge or Frisco, this is it!
