Dutchess County Pride Center is the LGBTQ community organisation for Poughkeepsie and the surrounding mid-Hudson Valley, based at 766 Main Street. It runs advocacy, education and support programmes, resource referrals and social gatherings through the year. It is a community centre, not a bar or club. The centre organises Poughkeepsie Pride each June, which includes a march down Main Street towards Waryas Park on the Hudson waterfront. Visitors new to the area can use it to find local groups and events. Check dutchesspride.org for drop-in hours and the programme calendar before visiting.

A guy friend and I dropped by to drop off clothing donations, and, since I never visited before but heard great things about them from my Lesbian friends, I really wanted to visit. I was very impressed by the beautiful, freshly renovated building, inside and out!They take security very seriously there, so we felt very safe. Most of their groups are in the evening, and I can't waiting until they have activities in the morning and afternoon. They presently call themselves the Dutchess County Pride Center. They are constantly growing and evolving. I strongly suggest you join their e-newsletter, which comes out every week.
