Hyatt Place Tempe/Phoenix Airport

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel others should be aware of my experience. After making my reservation, I started reading reviews and noticed that many guests mentioned a very strong sewer odor around the property. Concerned, I called the hotel a couple of weeks before my stay to cancel my reservation and request a refund. I was told that because I booked the non-refundable discounted rate, no refund could be issued. We are staying here tonight because I have a college class nearby before leaving for our family vacation in California. Unfortunately, when we arrived, those reviews turned out to be completely accurate. The moment I stepped out of my vehicle to walk into the hotel, I was hit with an overwhelming sewer smell. It was so strong that I honestly thought there had been a sewage spill. It made a terrible first impression before I even walked through the front doors. To make matters worse, I had also booked another stay at this hotel for our return trip from California from August 5–7. Since it was booked under the same non-refundable rate, I was again told I could not cancel or receive a refund. Had I been given the opportunity to cancel after learning about this ongoing issue, I would have gladly stayed somewhere else, booked an Airbnb for a similar price, or even driven through the night back to Tucson rather than stay here. I understand what a non-refundable rate means, but I also believe guests should not be locked into a reservation when there is a known, recurring problem that has been reported by numerous guests. I respectfully ask Hyatt to reconsider and issue a refund for my upcoming August 5–7 reservation. Based on what we experienced tonight and the consistency of the reviews, I have no desire to return to this property. What makes this especially disappointing is that this isn't my first poor experience with Hyatt. I previously had a very negative stay at a Hyatt property in Scottsdale, but I chose to give the brand another chance. Unfortunately, after this experience, I don't think I'll be booking Hyatt again. One bad stay can happen anywhere, but two disappointing experiences at different Hyatt properties have left me with very little confidence in the brand. I sincerely hope Hyatt addresses the sewer odor at this property and gives more consideration to guests requesting exceptions to non-refundable reservations when there is a documented, ongoing issue that significantly impacts the stay.

This is a great option if you need a place to stay before or after a flight or both. They also offer parking while you are away with a free shuttle to and from the airport. The hotel is clean, the rooms huge, a good breakfast is included, and the staff is first rate. I highly recommend them!

Location was perfect for early flight. Room was comfortable. Only disappointment was I paid for a Mountain view with balcony. I got the back of the entrance instead. :-(

Could use a little better cleaning... corners of shower, baseboards, etc. Over all very comfortable and convenient.
