Sadly, that Arizona Inn no longer exists. The Arizona Inn was once the most beautiful historic hotel in Tucson—a timeless place where prominent guests, politicians, artists, feminists, ranchers, and Western cowboys gathered. It was more than a hotel. It was a sanctuary where guests were treated with dignity, kindness, and genuine hospitality. You could sleep peacefully, admire the beautiful Arizona sky, and feel safe, valued, and welcome. Sadly, that Arizona Inn no longer exists. Today, it feels like a corporate operation that has lost the very soul that made it legendary. The warmth, humanity, and respect for loyal guests have been replaced by bureaucracy and indifference. I can only imagine that the spirit of Isabella Greenway would be heartbroken to see what has become of the hotel she loved and built. The difference in service is astonishing. The restaurant once operated beautifully with three attentive staff members. Now there are many employees, yet they seem to spend more time looking at one another than serving guests. The staff once listened, cared, and accommodated individual needs. Instead, I was told that my husband’s disability was “not their problem.” What shocked me even more was being told that Patrick, the previous manager, had gone out of his way to help us and that somehow his losing his job was because of me. Imagine saying that to a paying guest. It was astonishing, hurtful, and deeply unprofessional. We paid approximately $1,500 for six nights while the hotel was under construction. The air conditioning was not working properly,(in July) yet instead of receiving an apology for the inconvenience, I was made to feel responsible for the previous manager’s dismissal. Is everything somehow my fault now? That single conversation erased years of goodwill I had toward this historic hotel. I will never return to the Arizona Inn, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for genuine hospitality, compassion, and respect, you may want to stay elsewhere. A beautiful building means very little when the warmth and humanity that once defined it are gone—and with them, my beautiful little friends, those wise desert lizards that once made the gardens feel alive.
