The Delhi Queer Pride Parade is India's largest and most historically significant annual LGBTQ+ event ? a march that began in 2008 in the shadow of the Section 377 legal struggle and has grown into a gathering of tens of thousands that demonstrates, each November, the scale and confidence of the country's LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
The parade takes place on the last Sunday of November, marching through the streets of central Delhi with a route that typically covers several kilometres from a gathering point in the center to a rally ground where community leaders, activists, artists, and allies speak and perform. The crowd is extraordinarily diverse: every identity, every age, every city in India represented, with a significant international contingent that has grown as Delhi Pride's reputation has spread. The visual spectacle ? the colour, the costumes, the homemade signs, the dancing ? is unlike anything else in South Asia.
The political dimension of Delhi Pride remains prominent in a way that distinguishes it from more purely celebratory events. Delhi is where the Section 377 case was fought for seventeen years; the lawyers, activists, and petitioners who drove that struggle have deep connections to the Pride organizing community, and the speeches at the November rally connect the celebration to the ongoing work of achieving full legal equality. Same-sex marriage, adoption rights, anti-discrimination legislation ? these are the active campaigns, and the Pride gathering is the annual moment when their urgency is most publicly stated.
The 2026 edition is expected to be one of the largest in the event's history, building on the momentum of recent years. The parade itself takes approximately two hours from start to rally. Post-march, the community disperses across Delhi's LGBTQ+-friendly venues ? Kitty Su at The LaLiT is the natural anchor of the evening's celebrations. Accommodation in central Delhi books up in the weeks around Pride; booking at least two to three months in advance is strongly recommended. November weather in Delhi is ideal: cool, dry, and clear ? one of the best months to visit the city.
