Bassiani ist nicht einfach nur ein Club. Im Kontext des georgischen LGBTQ+-Lebens ist es eher ein Heiligtum – ein Raum, in dem die sozialen Regeln der weiteren Stadt außer Kraft gesetzt sind, in dem queere Menschen sichtbar sein können ohne Angst, und in dem die Musik, die Dunkelheit und die gemeinsame Körperlichkeit der Tanzfläche eine vorübergehende Welt schaffen, die sich völlig anders anfühlt als die Straße draußen. Dass es sich auch zu einem der international am meisten anerkannten Techno-Clubs in Europa entwickelt hat, ist teilweise eine Folge dieser Intensität. Der Club befindet sich im ehemaligen Olympia-Schwimmbad im Keller des sowjetischen Dinamo-Stadions, eine Umgebung, die ihm ein Format und eine akustische Qualität verleiht, die es in fast keinem anderen Club gibt. Der Hauptbereich ist ein riesiger, gewölbter Betonraum – die Abmessungen des Pools in eine Tanzfläche umgewandelt, die über tausend Menschen fassen kann – mit einem Soundsystem, das zu den besten in Europa gehört. Die Dunkelheit ist absolut; die visuelle Sprache ist minimal; die Musik leistet die Arbeit. DJs aus Georgien, aus dem europäischen Circuit und aus der internationalen Techno-Community spielen Sets, die die ganze Nacht hindurch und bis in den nächsten Tag laufen, wobei die Spitzenstunde irgendwann zwischen 4 und 5 Uhr morgens ankommt. Die Türpolitik ist bekannt für ihre selektive Haltung aus ästhetischen Gründen – Bassianis Team sucht nach Menschen, die wegen der Musik und der Community da sind, nicht für das Spektakel – aber innerhalb des Clubs ist die Inklusivität echt und umfassend. Schwule Männer, Lesben, heterosexuelle Georgier, internationale Besucher, trans Menschen, nicht-binäre Menschen, alle sind in ungefähr gleichen Anteilen präsent, und die explizite Positionierung des Clubs als queerfreundlicher Raum hat ihn seit seiner Eröffnung 2014 zu einem Anziehungspunkt für Tbilisis LGBTQ+-Community gemacht. 2018 wurden Bassiani und die angrenzende Café Gallery zum Schauplatz eines entscheidenden Moments in der georgischen Geschichte, als die Polizei beide Veranstaltungsorte nach Drogen durchsuchte. Die Reaktion der Community – Tausende von Ravern, die sich vor dem Parlamentsgebäude versammelten, in das, was als die „Rave-Revolution" bekannt wurde – war eine der dramatischsten Demonstrationen von gegenkultureller Solidarität in der post-sowjetischen Geschichte und hob das internationale Profil des Clubs erheblich. Der Club operiert seitdem ohne größere Unterbrechung. Praktische Informationen: Bassiani ist freitags und samstags ab etwa 23 Uhr geöffnet, wobei die Türen oft bis Sonntagabend für Marathon-Sessions offen bleiben. Der Eingang erfolgt durch Face Control an der Tür – Kleidungscode ist dunkel, praktisch und unkompliziert; vermeiden Sie alles offen Touristisches oder Ungezwungenes. Bringen Sie Bargeld für die Eintrittsgebühr mit (typischerweise 20–40 GEL je nach Abend). Die Garderobe ist essentiell; die Bar ist einfach. I tried a lot of techno clubs around Europe. We arrived early around 10 p.m. They asked a few questions about techno, and we entered with 4 guys. What an amazing night. Pure techno. Pure sound system. We left at 7, but the party must go on. Thank you. No phones allowed, only techno ♥️

The music was loud and clear, which is a matter of taste, but the bass system was poor and the music was constantly distorted. What bothered me was that it seemed like only smokers were present, and this was allowed, and the poor ventilation made breathing impossible.

I'm genuinely sad and disappointed from my experience at this club tonight on a queer event - Hydrash. It all started when there were two men standing behind me in the line and we got into a conversation and I noticed that both of them had very strong Russian accents. I asked them where they were from and they both laughed and hesitated and one of them said "good question...you don't wanna know". It was obvious that they were clearly Russian who were aware that this club doesn't allow the entry of Russian citizens. Since it was a queer event they both had invitations that were possibly faked cause if they had entered their actual information in the registration form they wouldn't have been verified. They were holding Georgian passports and were wearing glasses to cover their faces. I warned the bouncer that there was a high chance that the men behind me were Russian citizens and were holding passports that didn't belong to them. I asked the bouncer to check them thoroughly. It took him exactly 30 seconds to allow them to enter. And when these Russians entered I heard one of them say "we pull this everytime". As a visitor of this club and as a Georgian citizen who wants to be in a safe space without my country's invaders and occupants, I felt very unsafe and devastated by the bouncer's lack of responsibility and incompletion of a very valid request: to check the people I - their member and a visitor - thought were dangerous and were breaking the club's rules. When I entered the club, I heard a lot of Russian speaking around me. It felt very unsafe to be among this crowd and I felt very disappointed. Later on, two of my Georgian friends who wanted to come to the club were denied of access and when I stepped outside to see them, I also saw that two Dutch boys had also been rejected. They were saying that there were two Russian men in front of them in the queue who the bouncers let in. I can't fathom to process how a place as great as Bassiani, with an incredible space inside, world tier music, and morals that they preach about being anti-Russian, allowed such behavior tonight: rejecting Georgians and Europeans and allowing Russians in the club. Also to note, the bouncers were incredibly mean to me and my friends when we expressed disappointment about this situation. I believe that this place is really great but its bouncers are not doing their jobs the way they're supposed to and are creating an atmosphere inside that feels the opposite of what the club stands for.
