Praia do Canavial

Praia do Canavial is a secluded, cliff-backed cove just southwest of Lagos near the Ponta da Piedade headland, reached by an unmarked path and a flight of steps down the cliff. It was one of the first beaches in the western Algarve to draw a gay crowd, and in summer a good share of sunbathers are LGBTQ+, with nudism tolerated at the quieter far end. There are no facilities, so bring water and shade. The dramatic ochre cliffs and clear water make it a favourite for anyone wanting a calm, natural spot away from the busier town beaches.
