Das Talland Bay Hotel & Restaurant

Escaping Plymouth for my wife’s birthday, Talland Bay Hotel was exactly the reset we needed. Just under an hour’s drive from the city, arriving on the south coast of Cornwall genuinely felt like stepping into a different world, without the effort of a long journey. From the moment we drove through Looe, the sense of relaxation kicked in. We were welcomed warmly on arrival and immediately looked after by a fantastic team, especially Jack and Kyra, who made themselves so available that it felt like we’d made new friends within minutes. It set the tone for a kid‑free evening where we could simply unwind and actually talk to each other, which is a rare treat these days. After settling in, we headed to the bar and lounge, where we sat down with a pint of Cornish Orchards cider from nearby Duloe and a pint of Harbour lager, played cards and properly chilled out. The atmosphere in the seating area was relaxed and comfortable, the kind of space where you can quietly exhale after a busy week, before being invited through to the restaurant. Dinner itself was fantastic, with attentive, knowledgeable young staff who clearly care about the details, from cheese to wine, and who created an easy, relaxed rhythm to the evening. The next morning, our room really came into its own. Being able to step straight out at 7am and head off for a run along the coast path between Talland and Polperro felt incredibly special. Within about twenty minutes we were in Polperro, with rough seas on one side, beautiful blue skies above and that classic Cornish coastline laid out in front of us. It was the perfect way to start the day. Breakfast back at the hotel was fantastic, the kind where you inevitably eat far more than you intend to, especially on Easter Sunday. The quality and generosity of the food meant I then had to somehow follow it with a roast at my mum’s later that day, which says everything about how good breakfast was. Talland Bay Hotel feels like a playful little escape on the south Cornwall coast, tucked between Looe and Polperro, with service and surroundings that make the short trip from Plymouth feel like a genuine break. It turned a simple overnight stay into a birthday my wife and I will remember for a long time, and it is wholeheartedly recommended.

Amazing little hotel, it's so quirky with a lovely welcome when we arrived and nothing was too much trouble, if you ask, they'll try and make it possible, I love the fact they love dog's and their views are just beautiful.
