Gay Saunas in Madrid: What to Expect
Madrid takes its saunas seriously. This is not an afterthought corner of the scene. The saunas here are large, busy, well-maintained, and central to how a significant part of the gay population moves through the city. They have been here for decades and are not going anywhere.
The Basics
Most Madrid saunas are open daily, many around the clock. They are not hole-in-the-wall operations. The larger ones have pools, multiple steam and dry saunas, café areas, gym equipment, video lounges, and extensive darkroom facilities. The smaller ones are more intimate but still well-run.
Entry is typically €10-20, which includes a towel and locker. Day rates before a certain hour are often cheaper. Some saunas have membership cards worth getting if you are staying more than a few days.

What to Bring
Nothing you cannot carry in a pocket. Lockers are provided. Towels are provided. Most saunas sell condoms and have lubricant dispensers. Flip-flops are a good idea and can usually be rented or bought at the front desk.
When to Go
Afternoons from 2pm to 8pm tend to be busy with men who have finished lunch and are not going out until late. Late night after 1am picks up again as bars close. Mornings are quieter. Weekends see peak attendance.
The Culture
Nobody here is confused about why they are there. Madrid sauna culture is direct and unembarrassed. Cruise actively or not at all. Hovering indecisively is not a style that works here. The spaces are designed for movement, so move.
Most saunas have both open areas and private cabins. Some allow you to leave your cabin door open as a signal. Others are more compartmentalised. You will figure out the layout quickly.
Getting There and Back
All major saunas in Madrid are within easy reach of central Chueca, typically a ten-minute walk or a two-stop metro. If you are coming from or going to a late night out, they are on the way.
