About this place Sauna Principe

Sauna Principe is a gay men's sauna on Travesía de las Beatas, a side street in central Madrid between Gran Vía and Plaza de España. Its crowd is mainly older men, bears, chubs and their admirers. If that's your type, it's the obvious choice among Madrid's saunas. You'll find the usual steam and dry heat, rest areas and cruising space. It is not a spa-style showpiece, and its 3.6 Google rating includes complaints about upkeep. It opens at 10am Monday to Thursday and at 1pm from Friday to Sunday, staying open until around midnight or 1am. Bring flip-flops and keep valuables in your locker.

The place is great, I usually go on Sundays and the atmosphere is fantastic. There are fewer people than on Saturdays, but it's a good crowd. It's not cheap, but the place is clean, has many facilities, and is large.

ENORMOUS POTENTIAL, TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. A money pit that desperately needs reform. I would like to be in charge of management to improve cleanliness, attract more customers, and increase revenue. I work in hotel quality control, and the state of this place is unacceptable. The owners rake in millions on weekends, but they keep the place half-abandoned because "it's in the city center and people come anyway out of curiosity." The employees do the bare minimum, and the filth is appalling, especially on Sundays. With 5% of their annual earnings, they could fix the following: 1. A GIANT DRY SAUNA (15x20m) at a lower temperature: So people can be comfortable inside, as the current one is small and stifling. It's called a sauna, and it's the smallest and dirtiest facility in the building. The heat is so intense that you'd die by the time you're trying to hook up. 2. 24-HOUR HYGIENE: There's a lack of staff constantly mopping and collecting glasses. Like in other trendy bars or spas. There are naked people, sweat, and bodily fluids everywhere; the health risk is extremely high. The jacuzzi seats are greasy and smell of dirty chlorine. 3. JACUZZI RENOVATION: Remove the stone effect (a breeding ground for bacteria that's impossible to clean) and install smooth, light-colored tiles. 4. DISINFECTION BREAKS: Alternate 20-minute closures every 6 hours for thorough cleaning without interrupting service. 5. A DECENT RELAXATION AREA: Improve the bar with sofas and some cold snacks. We're in Madrid, not Caracas. The current atmosphere makes you feel uncomfortable due to the lack of hygiene. You have plenty of money; invest in the place.

About what I expected on a Tuesday night in the off season. A fair number of men, fairly friendly. I’d go back on a weekend. Closing at midnight seems odd for a sauna.
