I would give Hostal Goyal Pizarro 5 stars a few months ago. I stayed there about ten times (most recently at Christmas 2025) and was never disappointed. Thinking about another stay, I sent several emails that went unanswered. I had to call. I received an impersonal email directing me to their website. You have to pay before you get any useful information. On the phone, they told me everything was on the website, but the reception opening hours weren't listed, and the welcome was anything but friendly. "We only take reservations for a minimum of 7 nights. Otherwise, go to the website." I was really disappointed. I think it's due to a change in management. I also thought I saw that the prices had increased. A change in management requires attention to long-time customers. But there was nothing. So I probably won't go back. During my next stay in Madrid, I'll do some more research at another hotel. And I'll check the new reviews. I'll add that they left Booking.com, which was a recent addition... and I agree with them there, even though unfortunately customers often complain about that site. To be continued.
Excellent guesthouse in central Madrid. The room is large and well-equipped (even with a small fridge). The bathroom is new and the shower is very comfortable. A hairdryer and complimentary toiletries are also provided. Highly recommended.
Poor quality. Bad service. Lack of cleaning. Bed bugs.
The best thing about this hostel is its location. A very quaint building in the heart of Madrid. If you arrive after 11 am, you have to call to be checked in at a shop across the street. The room was acceptable for a couple of days (the ceiling fan didn't work).
