Caswell Resort Hotel

WARNING BEDBUGS I stayed at this hotel from August 11–15, and unfortunately, my room had bedbugs. At first, I thought the bites I was getting were from mosquitoes, but by the end of my stay I had more than 80 bites all over my body. When I returned home, I discovered two bedbugs in my clothing, which meant I had to rewash and heat-dry everything I brought back to avoid contamination. On Saturday, I called the hotel to report that room 15 had bedbugs. Instead of taking the concern seriously, staff dismissed it outright, insisting that since they had changed the sheets and didn’t see any bugs, it “couldn’t possibly” be true. The bites and the insects I found in my belongings prove otherwise. Not only did the hotel fail to address the issue responsibly, but they also showed no willingness to take corrective action. Unless you have absolutely no other option, I would strongly advise avoiding this property.

We stayed at the Caswell again for our yearly cousins reunion. This year we stayed in three of the smaller cabins adjacent to the main building, with a view of the back field/yard, and one room in the opposite, newly renovated portion of lodging. The location of the Caswell is great, with walking distance to anything in town, from restaurants, shops and the post office. The waterfront property is amazing to be able to use. The cabins were basic, but were exactly as advertised. A double (or queen?) bed in the main area, sofa (that might have pulled out, we didn't try), and a small side room with a double bed. The middle cabin was comfortable and we slept pretty decently. The two on either sides' main room beds were firm. The air conditioning was a welcome necessity, as the weather was scorching back in July. Internet was available in the cabins, as well as while sitting outside (which was a must, as one of us had work that needed to be monitored). The owners were so kind and helpful. We had lovely and lengthy discussions about the changes that we'd seen over the years since they purchased the property just before covid hit. Little by little they are upgrading the premises, and it shows. The waterfront area has a great amount of space for multiple groups to be able to use it without any crowding. The natural shore extends out into the lake without getting deep, which is great for young children to safely play, and for those less comfortable with water. We were easily able to walk next door to walk along a pier that could take us to deeper water without needing to wade out. We used the kayaks daily, and life jackets were provided and easily accessible. We look forward to returning in 2026 for our next family gathering and seeing what is new and improved!

Very well hosted by Mr. Neel, amazing place, close to nature. Must visit for nature lovers. Felt like home as Mr. Neel provided us with whatever we asked for. Unlimited use of water equipment was an add-on. Had a great time and recommend everyone to stay there atleast for 2 nights.

My fiancé and I spent the night in Sundridge over the long weekend, we escaped the city, and it was exactly what we needed. The Caswell grounds were peaceful and relaxing, with a beautiful view and a shallow lake that made it perfect for lounging. We brought our own soccer mom chairs, set them up right in the water, and enjoyed some drinks—it was pure relaxation. The rooms were cozy and quaint, just what you'd hope for in a quiet getaway. I'm glad we took the advice to bring bug spray—it came in handy! We also enjoyed walking around the area; it's a lovely location with a lot of charm. We packed our own food and snacks for the most part, but treated ourselves to dinner at the Wing House across the street, which was great. The nearby coffee shop, Sips, is also fantastic. Overall, this was the perfect little escape for us, and we’ll definitely be back.

Nice place for a weekend getaway.

Ok, if this was cheaper it would be a great northern Ontario place to jump off of to get outdoors. Was just coming through so did not get to explore the property or its offerings. The room was ancient, stained, cobbled together and overall felt like a huge rip off for almost $200. Called a suite but not even I microwave. The lake view from the little deck was great, everything inside was really rough

We entered through the back parking lot and had a very bad feeling as we walk through the hotel to the front lobby. This place is very rundown. Carpets are old and dirty. Front lobby isn’t anything to write home about. The entire hotel is in need of refurbishing. Although our room wasn’t bad, I was afraid it would smell based on the carpet leading to it. The bed was comfortable enough. The pillows are small and really not very comfortable. There was a spider in the bathroom. The air conditioning system is a joke. There was mould on the shower curtain. Changing the shower curtain would change one’s perspective 50%. Getting rid of this messy filthy air conditioning system or heater not sure what it was. Would also go along way.

I would strongly advise against staying at this hotel. When I first checked their Google listing, it said $119 per night with taxes and fees included. After booking, the price jumped to $129—and then at check-in, we were charged another tax, bringing the total to $145. It felt very misleading and caught us off guard. That might’ve been forgivable if the room was even remotely decent. Unfortunately, it was awful. The room smelled like mildew. The sheets had a greasy film, the mattress cover was ripped and stained, and the couch was old and worn. The bathroom ceiling was flaking, the TV was scratched, and the whole space just felt dirty and neglected. After looking closer, it’s clear many of the 5-star reviews are fake and from family and friends of the owners. The management is poor, and the place hasn’t been updated in years. We planned to stay two nights but left after just one because we felt so uncomfortable. The only redeeming part was the location by the lake, where they offer free kayaking, which was actually fun—but that has nothing to do with the management.

We were there for an overnight stay in Sundridge. What a gem! Right next to the water park, in the centre of Sundridge with lots of parking. Very Clean. The owners are still updating the rooms, but new furniture, new soft furnishings, new bathroom, floors and more. It may look dated and some painting is still needed, but such a friendly family run resort. They couldn't have done more for us. I took the advice of one of the reviewers and we went to Wing House, just a few steps away. Free use of kayaks and paddle boats we just can't wait to return. I agree with the last reviewers - Ignore older reviews, there are friendly new owners and they are still making improvements!
