Like a jukebox of queer history, T.S. Leonard’s debut poetry collection, Another Anthem of Fabulous Survival, unfolds across decades of sound and geographies. Winner of the 2024-2025 Poetic Justice Institute Prize, Leonard’s poems ask how memory becomes record and how record becomes song. Musical duo DAYS joins Leonard and a coterie of poets—including charles theonia, Joshua Garcia, and David Groff—to celebrate the New York launch of his debut poetry collection at Manhattan’s queer bookstore.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and the authors will be around for a signing after the event.
T.S. Leonard is a poet, performer, and educator whose work has been featured in Poetry, Foglifter, and Fourteen Poems and in collaborative projects at the Portland Art Museum and Pacific Design Center. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, he lives and teaches in San Francisco.
charles theonia is a poet from Brooklyn. They are the author of Gay Heaven Is a Dance Floor but I Can’t Relax (Archway Editions), If a Piece Falls off the Poem, Keep It (Belladonna*), and other writings on zits, piss, and disco.
Joshua Garcia is the author of Pentimento (Black Lawrence Press, 2024), a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award and the Thom Gunn Award. His poems have appeared in Ecotone, The Georgia Review, Passages North, Ploughshares, and elsewhere. He holds an MFA from the College of Charleston and has received a Stadler Fellowship from Bucknell University, an Emerge—Surface—Be Fellowship from The Poetry Project, and support from the Hawthornden Foundation. He lives and writes in Brooklyn, New York.
David Groff is an independent book editor and the author of three books of poems: Live in Suspense, Clay, and Theory of Devolution. With Philip Clark, he edited Persistent Voices: Poetry by Writers Lost to AIDS; with Jim Elledge, he edited Who’s Yer Daddy?: Gay Writers Celebrate Their Mentors and Forerunners. He teaches poetry, nonfiction, and publishing in the MFA creative writing program at the City College of New York. David is a cofounder of the Publishing Triangle. www.davidgroff.com
DAYS is Ethan Philbrick and Ned Riseley, a band, a theatrical project, and a couple that lives in an apartment in Brooklyn. They bring cello and voice together to create mystical songs and uncanny theater. Their latest EP, “Do I,” was produced by Kyp Malone and their latest play, “Internal Audit,” premiered at The Kitchen in March 2026.
The Bureau of General Services—Queer Division is Manhattan’s only queer bookstore, located on the second floor of the LGBT Center. We’re open Tuesday-Sunday from 1-7pm and accessible by the 6th Ave 1 2 3 L trains and 8th Ave A C E trains. Our cafe, The Bureau Cafe, is open Tuesday-Sunday from 9am-7pm.
