The park itself is very beautiful, but the roads are still very washed out and, in some places, one cannot pass without rubber boots. A lot of people walk along the trails, someone alone, not afraid ..., someone walks their dogs. We met fresh tracks of wild boars. A huge number of turkeys on the hills. The hare we got on the way was not frightened; it was still quite small. Had a great time with the kids. We will definitely return to this park again. The younger ones were not ready for ups and downs, they had to be halfway through the impact, but still the trip was a success. There are many options for choosing a distance, there is a shorter or longer route. There are maps at the entrance to the park, but it is advisable to go with a GPS. Lost signal several times. The markings of interest are very accurate at the intersections of the roads, you won't get lost.
Our visit was a quick stop on the way to Mount Humunum, but there are great hiking trails and historical perspective on the historic quick silver mercury production from 1847-1976.
The Almaden Quicksilver area has quite a few trails of various lengths and difficulty levels. I recommend you search on All Trails for a hike with the difficulty level and length that interests you. Note that if you go on a longer hike, don’t rely entirely on All Trails, as you will likely loose connection. Write down the various trails, as there are many intersecting trails – most of which are well marked. There are parking lots and facilities near most of the entrances, although one is in a neighborhood and you just park on the street. I recommend you hike to English Camp and the surrounding area to see the few remains of an old mining town. Be sure to look around as you hike as there are other old buildings and mining equipment, etc. We really enjoy hiking in this area.
Came on a Sat afternoon amid Covid. Great spot to hike, lots of trails and not so packed in terms of foot traffic and some parking available in the neighborhood. Sporadic shade throughout with some inclined trails. Please read the signs when parking as residents have requests.
Plenty of parking in the neighborhood even during COVID. Unfortunately not a lot of shade throughout the trail, specifically on a hot day it may feel excruciatingly long with the inclines. The 2 mile Mine hike isn't bad, pure dirt trail with plenty of space between other hikers. Lots of folks bring dogs. Great sporadic views throughout. Portapotties at the entrance to the trails is a plus with maps available to grab and go.
There are several entrances to this park, but all the available trails involve some steep and slippery sections somewhere. Most of the trails have no shade. The views of Almaden Valley on the trail are quite nice.
There are a lot of great hiking trails with beautiful scenery and views. At one part of one of the trails, we passed by the Almaden Reservoir, which was quite nice. Some of the hike is in the open and some in the shade. Bring masks because although it isn't crowded, we passed a number of people and some of the paths are narrow. We will definetly hike in this area again.
We went to Almaden Quicksilver County Park. There is a nice reservoir. There is also lots of hiking, We liked seeing the mining exhibits. This was the first mine in California.
Hiking in Quicksilver is like escaping from civilization. Nicely challenging hikes, beautiful views. Love it here.
The history of silver / mercury mining is explained well... albeit briefly. While the equipment on display is not from the California "story" it does help the visitor to understand the process of early mining. In addition, this park is a great place to do some hiking and biking. It is a very quiet place that presents the opportunity to enjoy nature while enjoying some "me" time. Traveling up Mount Umunhum is well worth the time. The views from the top are spectacular. It is a good place to pack a picnic dinner and watch the sunset. The park is very big and will probably require that you drive to the various places of interest.
