Capital Pride ist Washington DCs jährliche LGBTQ+-Pride-Feier — eines der politisch bedeutendsten Pride-Events der Welt, jedes Jahr im Juni in der Hauptstadt der USA. Die Capital Pride Parade führt über die Pennsylvania Avenue NW, dieselbe Straße der Präsidentschafts-Inaugurationen, und verbindet das US Capitol am einen Ende mit dem White House am anderen. Die Symbolik ist bewusst gewählt und kraftvoll: ein Marsch für LGBTQ+-Gleichstellung auf der Straße der politischen Macht, in der Stadt, in der die Gesetze für jede:n LGBTQ+-Amerikaner:in gemacht werden. Das Event zieht über 200.000 Teilnehmende und Zuschauende an und umfasst ein mehrtägiges Festival auf der National Mall und in angrenzenden Bereichen, mit Auftritten, Community-Organisationen und der gesamten institutionellen LGBTQ+-Infrastruktur Washingtons. Capital Pride hat einen ausgeprägt politischen Charakter, der es von anderen großen US-Prides unterscheidet: Die hier präsenten Organisationen sind genau jene, die im Kongress lobbyieren, Bundesklagen führen und nationale Advocacy-Kampagnen fahren. Politiker:innen, darunter Mitglieder des Kongresses, marschieren mit. HRC, National LGBTQ Task Force und Dutzende nationale LGBTQ+-Organisationen nutzen die Pride-Woche als Bühne für Gesetzgebungs- und Politikarbeit.
