Andrea was the absolute best host ever....yes the property is being renovated and the updates are beautiful...but Andrea not only was friendly and engaging but made it her business to ensure my stay was not only comfortable but she provided places and events to give me a great Wilmington experience

Fox the fox, rat on the rat

The hotel is under construction with that said our 4 nigh stay was one for the books. First room construction workers working outside of our room, once opening our door, we were hit with the smell of bleach at the very beginning We movedto a second room where our key would not work to get into the room. One of the workers had a master key and let us in and lo and behold there were other people in that room. The third room was on the first floor, and the view from the sliding glass door was a black tarp covering the door. I sat down at the desk to make a phone call, and the leg of the desk fell off. The fourth room turned out to be the best room of all, but lacked lighting bathroom fan did not work wallpaper peeling off the wall And the icing on the cake was that the elevator did not work from the parking garage to the first floor of the hotel and you had to get to the lobby by going on spiral staircases the first night that we were there I tripped and fell up the spiral staircases went to the front desk to report this and was greeted with OK The staff did all they could to help but it was a lost cause. If you plan to stay at this hotel please make sure renovation is completed. Also parking is not free, our car had to pay 52.00 in total.

I attended an Esteem event at this hotel and noticed there was also an event taking place for Duke University. As I was leaving, I stopped at the front desk and politely asked for a tissue because my nose was running. I could clearly see a box of tissues sitting on the desk in front of the employee. Instead of simply handing me a tissue, the young woman — while continuing her conversation with two men attending the Duke event — went to the back and returned with three sheets of disinfectant wipes. I was shocked and offended by the interaction. Maybe there was some misunderstanding, but the experience left me feeling disrespected and questioning whether I was treated differently because I am African American. That is not how any guest should leave feeling after attending an event at your hotel.

A lot of the reviews are very negative so I wanted to share something helpful for other nervous travelers. There's nothing wrong with this hotel. Sadly, it doesn't have a pool, but otherwise it's a standard, decent hotel. If you're walking from the Amtrak station and staying in town for a night or two, just go for it. It was very nice to walk here easily from the Amtrak station. We arrived at the very pretty lobby quite early for checkin but the lady helping us was very nice; we had our bags stowed and she called us around 4pm when our room was ready. The pool was apparently removed during renovations, which is disappointing. The room itself was was modern; there was some recent renovation but some details of age are visible around the edges. It had a mini-fridge. The shower had hot water. The staff are very nice. Travel tips: Much like some other reviews, I would recommend sticking to Market St instead of King St for walking. Market St is where everything is, anyway. If you don't bring food, you will mostly rely on Walgreens, Pretty Eddie's, and restaurants. If you like walking, you can get to the Zoo and Brandywine creek easily. You might want to take a bus (DART 006, 020) to get to/from the Delaware Art Museum, which is also in a much nicer part of Wilmington.

Not the worst hotel I’ve stayed in—but easily the worst experience. We checked in on the app the day before arriving. When we got there at 6:00 PM, we still didn’t have a room assigned. The lobby had a line of 15+ people in the exact same situation, and some had already been waiting over 3 hours. We didn’t get our room until 7:20 PM… for a hotel with a 3:00 PM check-in time. The check-in process was complete chaos. Staff were literally running to rooms to see if they were ready. One employee was assigning any available room just to move the line, while another refused to give us a ready room because it was larger than what we booked. So we stood at the counter for 25 minutes while multiple people who got in line after us were helped first. When I asked what was causing the delay, I received a dismissive response: “People keep asking me that,” rather than any explanation or apology. Not once during the entire check-in process did any staff member acknowledge the delay or apologize to the many guests waiting -- some for hours. The room itself was clean, but full of issues: - Exposed electrical outlet (safety hazard) - Mini fridge didn’t work (our food spoiled) - Bathroom door was literally falling off its hinges -- you could not close the bathroom door without lifting it. This is a major issue for anyone with strength or mobility issues. - Missing cabinet doors - Toilet struggled to flush - Loud elevator noise all night - Curtain rod falling off the wall - Empty shampoo bottle - No door tag for housekeeping At checkout we let the front desk know of the major issues we found with the room. She kindly apologized but then said that the reason was because our floor had not been renovated. That’s not an excuse—if a room has this many issues, it shouldn’t be rented out in the first place. If this had been my first time staying at a DoubleTree, I would never stay at one again. This place is seriously mismanaged. Positives: - Room was clean - Shower was hot Also, the pool was closed. Update: We emailed both the hotel directly and Hilton corporate more than two weeks ago regarding the safety violations we observed during our stay, and neither has responded. We also reported the code violations to Wilmington, DE.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the DoubleTree in Delaware and had an overall very positive experience. I’d especially like to recognize Sabrina at the front desk for her outstanding customer service. She was professional, attentive, and clearly knowledgeable about Hilton policies. When we asked about the early check-in fee, she took the time to verify our benefits and confirmed that, as Hilton Gold members and American Express Platinum cardholders, the fee could be waived. She handled everything smoothly and efficiently, which made a great impression. Earlier, we had inquired with another receptionist, Shekna, and were told that this benefit only applied to Silver status, which was confusing. While these things can happen, consistency in communication is important. Sabrina turned the situation around with her professionalism and expertise. She’s a great asset to the team. Overall, a great stay and we would happily return.

There was nothing overtly bad about the place, it's just dated which they are working on. The people were friendly but unfortunately the city of Wilmington seems to have a monopoly on parking and the hotel staff are not fully aware of their policies/procedures and why should they be? At WPA has the garage staffed 24/7 for any questions so definitely see them first for parking questions. The elevators seem very dated as well but again during our stay. I would not hold that against them at all. We were in town for a tournament, no other reason I would really be in town as I hate cities and would rather be in the mountains. Again though, staff was friendly and of course offered us those amazing warm cookies which my wife and son love.

I booked a nonrefundable 2-night stay at this hotel for a business trip. After reading some of the recent reviews, I was concerned that I made a bad decision in booking this hotel while most of my colleagues were staying at other hotels in Wilmington. My flight arrived earlier than check-in time, but Tiana was very courteous and able to get me checked in to my room right away. The lobby has been recently renovated and looks quite nice. The elevators work just fine, but they are in dire need of new panels and modernization. I stayed on the 4th floor. I can’t tell if it was recently renovated or not, but there was quite a bit of paint on the hallway floors. My room itself was clean and very spacious. It had a nice big TV, spacious desk, working refrigerator, and 2 sets of towels. The desk chair would not adjust, so they brought me a new chair right away. Hot water and water pressure was just fine. The lighting in the room was not very bright and whoever painted the room was pretty careless – there was quite a bit of splattered and uneven paint. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of outlets. The bar was open in the evening and I got a couple bottles of sparkling water down there, but there is no store onsite. Breakfast is a small buffet- I wasn’t all that impressed, but I just wanted some fruit and a couple of eggs (which they were able to make for me). Not sure why parking is an option to add on at your reservation because the city operates the attached parking garage and you pay that fee separately ($11 per night or you can park on street if you’re lucky). I was told by Wilmington residents that downtown is sketchy and I would completely agree with that assessment. I would not recommend walking around at night- looked like a lot of shady characters nearby and it seemed like very few places right around the hotel are open at night. If you’re leaving in your car like I did, you should be fine.

I got worried seeing the reviews, especially since I had already booked a non-refundable room, but in the end I was relieved. Yes, the hallway was a mess, and the renovations are needed, but there was nothing gross or dirty about my room, just a little worn out (furniture edges dinged, etc). The lobby and staff were nice, and the location was very convenient.

Excellent service and staff

Came to town for a running event and the staff was completely overwhelmed at all the people. I checked in around almost 9PM and there were people who were still waiting on rooms because they had not been cleaned yet from the previous guest. That said, the staff working that night were doing everything in their power to make things right Andrea was especially helpful. She was greeting, checking in guests, having people physically inspect rooms to see if they were cleaned and more. Surprisingly she was still there in the morning and helped me track down a soda. When guests returned hours later she cheered for everyone and made people feel special. Even with the delays and chaos, she personally made the visit so much better for me I only gave 2 stars for the location just because downtown Wilmington feels pretty unsafe. If you just have to be downtown, this is a great place in terms of proximity to everything
