About This Event

Mumbai Pride is one of Asia's largest LGBTQ+ Pride events ? a January march that brings hundreds of thousands onto the streets of India's maximum city for a celebration that is, in scale, energy, and visual impact, unlike anything else on the continent. What began as a modest march in 2008 in parallel with the Delhi legal struggle has grown into a multi-day festival that defines Mumbai's LGBTQ+ calendar and draws visitors from across India and internationally.

The 2026 edition takes place in the last weekend of January. The main parade assembles at Azad Maidan in the Fort area of South Mumbai ? a vast open ground adjacent to the colonial-era cricket pitch, near the High Court and the city's historic civic core ? and marches through the surrounding streets to a rally ground where performances, speeches, and the general celebratory chaos of a Mumbai gathering take over. The crowd in recent years has been estimated at several hundred thousand, spread across the full width of the march route and spilling onto the pavements of adjacent streets.

Mumbai brings to Pride what it brings to everything: maximum intensity, maximum color, and a commitment to the full-scale party that is the city's cultural default. The costumes and floats are more elaborate than at any other Indian Pride event. The music float ? typically mounted on a truck with a sound system that competes with outdoor club venues ? generates a moving dance party that the crowd joins and sustains for the entire route. The atmosphere is simultaneously political and joyful, with signs demanding marriage equality and adoption rights carried alongside outfits that could only be assembled in a city with Bollywood in its DNA.

The week surrounding Mumbai Pride is busy with associated events: parties at Voodoo Pub and Kitty Su Mumbai run every night; community events and screenings are organized by the Mumbai LGBTQ+ Trust and allied organizations; and the general festive energy of the city in late January ? cool and clear by Mumbai standards ? makes it one of the best times of year to visit. Book accommodation in Colaba and Bandra well in advance; January is peak season for Mumbai generally and Pride week adds significantly to demand.
