It's past midnight on Vinohradská and the last day trams have gone; the street is all wet cobbles, shuttered bakeries and the yellow glow of a night tram sliding down towards Muzeum. Behind a plain door at number 63 the music is still thumping. On the other side of the river, below the gardens of Malá Strana, a basement club in Smíchov never closes at all. Prague's cruising scene is small, indoor and men-only: three cruise clubs with bars, darkrooms and dungeons, two saunas, a handful of bars with fetish nights, and Grindr for everything else. It's cheap by Western European standards and largely local. Here's what was running in late 2026, and what to watch out for.
Legal in one line: sex between men has been legal in what is now the Czech Republic since 1962, with an equal age of consent of 15. Since 1 January 2025 same-sex couples can enter an upgraded partnerství at any registry office, with spouse-like inheritance rights, shared property and adoption of a partner's child, but it is not marriage and joint adoption is not allowed. Cruise clubs and saunas are legal private venues for adults; sex in public is a different matter (see the box below).
How cruising works in Prague
Almost all of it happens indoors. The three cruise clubs are bars at the front and play areas at the back: darkrooms, cabins, slings, a dungeon or a maze. Two of them, Factory and Garage, are in Vinohrady (Prague 2), the residential district above Wenceslas Square that is also home to most of the gay bars; the third, Drake's, is in Smíchov, on the left bank of the river. The clubs open late in the evening and fill after midnight, with Friday and Saturday the busiest nights. Bring koruna in cash for the door, leave your passport at the hotel, and expect a mostly Czech crowd with visitors mixed in.
The cruise clubs
Drake's · Zborovská 497/50, Smíchov (Praha 5)
Rainbow Index calls Drake's one of the longest-running sex clubs in Prague. It's a basement complex of about 400 m², a few minutes' walk from the Újezd tram stop and the foot of Petřín hill. Travel Gay lists a full bar, a darkroom, a large dungeon with a maze, video cabins, an XXX cinema and private rooms; The Gay Passport adds a leather bar, relaxing cabins and go-go and strip shows, with weekend shows from about 22:00. It's listed as open 24 hours a day, every day, by Travel Gay, by Rainbow Index (updated April 2025) and by the Czech directory firmy.cz, where it has a 4.4 rating from 15 reviews. The Gay Passport says each entry is valid for 24 hours. The entry price isn't published, so ask at the door. Phone: +420 775 507 158.
Factory Club · Vinohradská 1485/63, Vinohrady (Praha 2)
More than 400 m² over three floors, with a bar, a dungeon, private cabins, a darkroom, a cage, glory holes, slings and showers, in an industrial setting with house music and video projections, as described by Travel Gay and gaymap.live. Firmy.cz also mentions video cabins, a playroom, a cell and a sex shop. Travel Gay lists Monday–Thursday 21:00–07:00 and Friday–Sunday 21:00–09:00; gaymap.live gives Sunday until 05:00, and firmy.cz shows an earlier afternoon opening, so check before you go. The club runs themed nights; look them up online on the day.
Club Garage (Klub Garáž) · Balbínova 224/3, Vinohrady (Praha 2)
A men-only (18+) cruise and fetish club near Náměstí Míru that Travel Gay says opened in January 2018. The Gay Passport describes a basement with cabins, slings and play areas aimed at leather and fetish fans. Travel Gay and The Gay Passport list it as open Wednesday to Sunday, with The Gay Passport giving 21:00–05:00; firmy.cz also shows a 21:00 opening. Reviewers say the entry fee is cash only. Check the dress code for the night before you go.
Bars with a darker side
These are bars first, but they're part of the same scene. Full details are in our Prague bars guide.
- Heaven Club, Gorazdova 1995/11, New Town: you enter through the club's own sex shop (firmy.cz lists it), and reviews mention fetish parties alongside the Thursday karaoke and drag shows. Check heavenclub.cz for the week's events.
- Club Termix, now at Vinohradská 40: a small dance club, not a cruise bar, though earlier listings mentioned a dark room. Check its social media for current hours.
- Empire Bar, Třebízského 1391/8, Vinohrady: firmy.cz lists it as a gay bar with booths in a rear area, opening at 17:00. We found little else about it, so treat it as a local tip.
- Sauna David, Sokolovská 107/44, Karlín (metro Florenc): a men-only club sauna running since 1992, with a wine bar, Finnish sauna, steam room, whirlpool, relaxation cabins, a video room and darkrooms. Its website gives Sunday–Tuesday 11:00–22:00 and Wednesday–Saturday 11:00–24:00, with single entry around 450 Kč at the time of writing.
- Sauna Bonbon, Černomořská 645/6, Vršovice (tram Ruská): a small neighbourhood sauna with steam, a dry sauna, a whirlpool and private cabins, open daily 14:00–22:00 (last entry 20:00), with naked parties on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a Junior Party for 18- to 25-year-olds on Saturdays.
- Sauna Babylonia (Martinská 6, Old Town) closed permanently in summer 2026; LUI reported on 1 September 2026 that its website carries only a closure notice.
- Club Valentino, once the big gay club with a darkroom at Vinohradská 40, is long gone; the building now houses Termix and Celebrity Café. Older guides also name Alcatraz, AXM and Wild Boys; we found no sign that any of them operated in 2025–26.
- Klub Sabinovka in Žižkov and the Gaymegastore sex shop in Letňany appear in some listings, but we couldn't confirm either from an independent source, so phone or check online before making the trip.
- Public offence: under § 5(1)(e) of Act No. 251/2016 Coll. on certain offences (zákon o některých přestupcích), anyone who vzbudí veřejné pohoršení (causes public offence) commits a public-order offence, punishable by a fine of up to 10,000 Kč (§ 5(3)(b)). Sex in a park, a public toilet or anywhere others can see you falls under this. More serious cases can be prosecuted as výtržnictví (disorderly conduct, including gross indecency in public) under § 358 of the Criminal Code.
- Police: both the state police and the municipal police (městská policie) patrol central parks. If they stop you, stay calm and polite and show ID: foreigners are expected to carry a passport or national ID card.
- Robbery: quiet paths at night and strangers' flats are where thieves look for people who won't go to the police. Carry only your phone, one card and a little cash.
- Emergency: call 112 (general), 158 (police) or 155 (ambulance).
- Never leave your drink unattended, and don't accept an open drink from someone you've just met.
- If you or a friend suddenly feel far drunker than you should, or someone collapses, tell the staff and call 155. Never mix GHB/GBL with alcohol and never dose someone else.
- Bills and pockets: tourist-heavy nightlife attracts pickpockets and overcharging. Check the bill before you pay, and keep your phone and wallet in a locker or zipped up.
- Offers on the street or in apps: be wary of anyone who approaches you outside a club, or messages you, offering sex for money, a party in a private flat or cheap money exchange. Never change money on the street.
- App dates: meet first in a bar or café, tell a friend where you're going and share your location.
- Cash: the Czech Republic uses the koruna (CZK, Kč), not the euro. Carry cash for entry fees and the saunas. Use ATMs attached to a bank branch rather than standalone machines, and always choose to be charged in CZK.
- Lockers and phones: use the locker or cloakroom (šatna), and keep your phone away in play areas; photos inside are not acceptable anywhere.
- Dress codes: Garage and Factory run fetish, naked and underwear nights; check the theme online before you go so you're not turned away.
- Consent: a shake of the head or a hand moved away means no. You can always say no yourself, walk away or leave a cabin.
- PrEP: the HIV Centre at Bulovka offers PrEP after a specialist consultation (contact hivprep@bulovka.cz).
- PEP: if a condom breaks, PEP has to start within 72 hours, the sooner the better. Czechia has had a national guideline on PrEP and PEP since October 2024. In Prague, go to the HIV Centre of Bulovka University Hospital (Budínova 67/2, Praha 8 – Libeň, building no. 7, second floor, entrance marked "Special Ambulance"), open Monday–Friday 6:30–14:00; phone +420 266 082 629 or +420 266 082 772 first. Out of hours, go to a hospital emergency department and ask for PEP. Free HIV testing without an appointment is also available there.
- Night trams: the metro stops around midnight; night trams 91 to 99 then run until about 05:00, every 30 minutes (every 20 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights, according to Prague's tourist board). All lines meet at Lazarská in the New Town. Drake's opens around the clock, so you can also wait for the first metro.
- Tickets: in the PID Lítačka app, 30 minutes costs 36 Kč and 90 minutes 46 Kč (2026 prices); you can also tap a contactless card on the terminal inside the tram. Activate the ticket before you board.
- Taxis: late at night, book Bolt, Uber or Liftago rather than taking a car waiting outside a club.
- Apps: Grindr and Romeo are both used in Prague.
- Ahoj – hi / bye. Díky – thanks. Na zdraví! – cheers!
- Vstupné – entry fee. Kolik to stojí? – how much is it?
- Šatna – cloakroom. Skříňka – locker. Hotovost – cash.
- Ne, díky – no, thanks. Always enough.
- Kondom – condom. Lubrikant – lube.
- Teplý – gay (colloquial, literally "warm"); teplouš is a slur.
- Noční tramvaj – night tram.
- Pomoc! – help! Zavolejte záchranku – call an ambulance.
The saunas
Prague's two gay saunas both have cabins and cruising areas, and both are cash only. Full details, prices and etiquette are in our Prague saunas guide.
Closed or unconfirmed:
Parks and public places
Like any big city, Prague has parks and riverbanks with old reputations, and some listings still point to them. We don't send you to any of them. They're shared public spaces with dog walkers, families and joggers, they're poorly lit at night, and the city has three cruise clubs open late, one of them around the clock.
The law and your safety:
Drinks, drugs and scams
GHB kills. In April 2026 Prague police reported that a 27-year-old foreign man died after drinking a lemonade containing GHB (tekutá extáze, "liquid ecstasy", called Gaba or Gábina in Czech) at a gay club in Smíchov. A 34-year-old man was charged with supplying it, and police were investigating whether it was given without the victim's knowledge. The head of the National Anti-Drug Centre warned that GHB is also used to incapacitate people for robbery or sexual assault.
Make a night of it
Start the way Prague does: a half-litre of Pilsner with a thick collar of foam in a Vinohrady pub, and a nakládaný hermelín, the Camembert-style cheese pickled in oil with onion and chilli. Have a beer at The Saints on Polská or in the cellar of Bar 21, then walk ten minutes to Factory or Garage after midnight. If you end up hungry at three in the morning, a smažák (fried cheese with tartare sauce) or a sausage from a stand on Wenceslas Square will do. Someone will offer a round of Becherovka, the herbal liqueur from Karlovy Vary; one is plenty.
Practical tips
Prague Pride
Prague Pride is held in August. The 16th festival ran from 3 to 9 August 2026 under the theme "Times Are Changing", with around 200 events. The parade on Saturday 8 August set off from Wenceslas Square, wound through the Old Town and crossed Hlávka Bridge to a new Pride Park on Štvanice island, replacing the old finish on Letná plain. The festival website gives 2 to 8 August 2027 for the next edition; watch praguepride.com for the parade date. Expect the cruise clubs and saunas to run special parties that week.
