Hotel Duca D'Alba

My experience was excellent, the location was excellent. The only flaw was the air conditioning, which was a bit noisy. The reception staff were very friendly.

Location, location, location! This hotel is so well situated within Rome. It’s within a 30 mins walk to so many major attractions. There are great shops and restaurants just around the corner. We had a 3 person room: JUNIOR SUITE (3 PAX) 18% DISCOUNT AND PAY IN CASH AT CHECK IN and even with the 18% cash discount, it cost around €2400 for 5 nights/6 days - so about €450-550 per night (rate depends on the day). That was excluding the € 7.50 per person per day city tax. The room was nice. A separate twin bed near the entrance, and then a double bed in a separate room with door. Both spaces have their own AC unit to control temperature to liking. It was a lot more spacious than I expected. I think the twin bed area it would’ve been nice to have a plug for charging phone nearby, instead of having to charge device in the washroom. There also could’ve been more storage space. The closet in the hallway was a bit small for a 3 person room, especially since there were some blankets stored in there, making there be less space available to store clothes. Some dressers or more space to put stuff away would’ve been nice. Washroom was nice, but there was no lotion or shampoo/conditioner, just body wash in the shower and soap by the sink. I think the layout could’ve been more functional, as there was a lot of empty space where even some more hooks for towels or shelves would’ve been helpful. Towels had a vinegary smell to them. Other than that, it was really nice, quiet, and I’d probably stay there again because location was exceptional, albeit expensive. Staff was helpful and kind.

I'm giving it 5 stars because from the moment we walked in the door, we were treated incredibly well. They upgraded us to a superior room because there had been a problem with the one we'd paid for. The room was spotless, the shower was fantastic, and the beds were perfect, perhaps a little firm. The reception staff were always very attentive, taking care of every detail and recommending restaurants. All the hotel staff were very attentive, friendly, empathetic, and always had a smile. The location is the best we've had in Rome, very close to the Colosseum. The weather was also perfect during our stay. We will definitely return. It's our go-to hotel in the city.

We stayed six nights at the Duca d’Alba and left deeply disappointed — not by the location, but by a week of broken promises, poor communication, outright dishonesty, and a deeply troubling invasion of privacy. Upon arrival, my room was in the annex building, which I knew in advance would involve stairs. What I didn’t expect was a room that felt nothing like the four-star experience advertised. The annex feels more like a 2–3 star hostel — bare-bones amenities, no real comfort, none of the touches you’d expect at this price point. The bigger issue was the air conditioning. From the first night, the mini-split unit in my room had no remote control. I went to the front desk. They told me not to worry — the AC wasn’t controlled by the unit itself, but centrally, via WiFi. It would be fixed. It wasn’t. Night two: same story. Night three: same story. A technician would be called “while we were out.” We’d return to a hot room and no update. On the fourth night, a remote control mysteriously appeared — but didn’t work. Staff again insisted the system was centrally controlled. Then a bell boy and front desk agent finally came to the room, felt the heat for themselves, and admitted something was wrong. On day five, we went back to the front desk. New staff. No record of our complaints. We explained everything from the beginning — five nights of this. The technician told us no one had ever called him. The head of housekeeping admitted she had checked the wrong room entirely. The final truth? The mini-split is how the AC is controlled. There was no central WiFi system. They had been lying to us from the start. To make matters worse, it became clear that staff had gone through my personal belongings while I was out — my hairbrush was broken, and there is no other explanation. This is an unacceptable violation of a guest’s privacy and basic trust. You should feel safe leaving your belongings in your room. Six nights without working AC, a room that doesn’t match its advertised standard, staff that responded to every complaint with misdirection, zero internal communication — and personal belongings tampered with. For what this hotel charges, there are far better options in the city. I won’t be returning.

We was staying at room j4 and had a very bad smell throught our stay. Worth asking if are booking if jt was corrected.
