We thought the bartender was joking when we walked in and asked for a beer and told us "no." So we played along sarcastically. The bartender turned out to be dead serious and refused to sell us a beer. She tried incredibly hard to get us out as quickly as possible. So we did. Luckily, there are other bars in Groningen with more friendly bartenders. We'll never be back.
Upon entering, we simply asked if they were open. The answer? "What a stupid question." Well... apparently, acting normal isn't a daily routine here. 4 times nothing is putting it politely. You'd almost think the staff considers it a sport to chase away customers. If sarcasm ever becomes an Olympic discipline, Bar Players will be on the podium – for lousy hospitality. In short: if you want to know how not to treat customers, just walk in. You'll understand right away.
