The Durham Hotel

I just checked out, and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. I have to highlight Eli in particular, who had such a graciousness, generosity, and dedication to great service. I encourage anyone in town to stay at the Durham Hotel.

Front end staff was great! Shout out Remi!! Location and aesthetics of the hotel were superb, but unfortunately I still think it was a bit over priced.

Consistency. At least it was consistent. I always try and say something positive about a place. I had to think for some time on this one: Parking - You have to park 2 blocks and the parking garage does not have a convenient elevator (if it had any). The Belllman - Not very helpful, nor friendly. The Front desk - Not at all friendly or inviting. The room - I adjusted the thermostat to 72 and it finally got down to 74 (from 77 for most of the night) at 3 am. The food - I couldn't tell you. It has 2 places to eat (ground floor and roof). The bellman did not even know they had a restaurant on the roof (and I had to ask him since nobody was at the front desk). I looked at both menus and to say it was limited is being generous. So the moment you have been waiting for, the positive thing. The best thing I can say about the place is that it is near The Yonder and The Daily. Very good coffeeshop and bar. Skip the food (meh) and have a coffee and a beer. Do yourself a favor and stay at the (very) nearby, 21C Hotel. MUCH friendlier, nicer and about the same price.

Cool hotel but needs a bit of a refresh. It’s hard to keep the historical vibe but keep things nice and fresh looking. It was a little tired looking and rooms were small. But the location is amazing and the front desk guy was great. We did have a quiet stay and it was comfortable. We parked I. The nearby parking garage which was not an issue.

This hotel is right near so many restaurants and bars and has a nice lobby/rooftop bar. Rooms are kind of standard but clean. A great place to stay for going out in Durham. I appreciated the morning freshly ground coffee service. It’s a nice touch.

I'm feeling fortunate that a flight delay led to an unplanned stay at The Durham. Loved the room details, especially the gorgeous bed quilts and ceramic cups! Breakfast in the beautiful lobby restaurant was perfect - the best I had in a week of travel in North Carolina! This place is a gem of a hotel.

Everything from the cleanliness, location, friendliness of the check in staff, and the rooftop bar were all exceptional 👌

I actually went for a speed dating event! The hotel has a very nice bar area. Im not sure if it's a restaurant also.

Update: used to be one of my favorite places. Not any more; extremely loud music unable to hold a conversation with the blasting jazz music.. is more like a discotheque than a place to meet up to have a good chat

While visiting the area last year, I took my 2 year old daughter to Pullen Park. While there she decided to cover her hair in sand. I tried to brush as much of it off and then returned to the hotel and put her under the shower. However, we still woke up to a lot of sand in the bed. When we got back to the hotel after another day out, my daughter was fast asleep as soon as we showered. I got us in bed only to discover that room service had not shaken the sheets. The bed was still covered in hundreds of grains of sand. I tried calling room service but no one picked up. Since I didn’t want to leave her in the room alone I had to carry my sleeping daughter while in our pajamas down to front desk to explain the situation. There was no apology whatsoever; someone came up a while later with a fitted sheet that turned out to be too small for the bed, so all while still holding my daughter I had to clear the bed and put the too small sheet partially on the bed to sleep. For the purported standard of the hotel and the price spent (and also regardless,) this is unacceptable. The worst. A year later and I’m recalling this poor experience that was not in any way acknowledged or rectified. Poor standards.

Stopped for March 14 Pi!

I can’t stop thinking about the breakfast sandwich and home fries. Easily one of the best brunches I’ve had.
