Holiday Inn & Suites Chicago North Shore (Skokie) by IHG

Place needs to be torn down and rebuilt. I would say it was awesome back in 1992.

Ridiculous price for a mediocre hotel that has a shower that doesn't drain and a thermostat controlled by a greedy corporation that doesn't allow you to go lower than 67 all so they can make more money.

As someone who has worked in hospitality for over 21 yrs, worked at 3 different Holiday Inns, one in Brownsville Tx & 2 others on South Padre Island & have stayed in hundreds of different type of hotels around the United States. This place is obviously understaffed. Tried calling about 20 times, before i got someone to answer the call & then i thought i had requested front desk, someone answered & told me that they had to call front desk to be able to answer my question & then call got disconnected. So, when I got there & asked if i could check in early, the lady just stood there & looked at me, like i was asking an absurd question & she didn't even bother to look into it before telling me no, so i gave her my number & asked her to call me when she had a room available. She never called me. At check in, guy was not very welcoming & just basically checked us in without saying a word to us. No instructions as how to get into our room or letting us know the information for wifi connection, pools hours, anything. I had to ask him how to get to our room, but he did accomate us to a rm on 1st floor as we did have our dog with us. When we got into our room, night stand, table & counter top were dirty-had visible stains & food. I used a wash cloth & hand soap to wipe everything down. Around toilet it had hairs, around toilet paper holder had a weird stain. I did not clean it off but did take a picture. Edges around counter & flooring in restroom were dirty (also took pictures) Other than that, restroom/tub/shower was decent. Bed was comfortable. (No bed bugs & i know this as i have an obvious allergic reaction to them) cabinets in room are improperly attached to wall-they look like they can fall off at any moment, attached at an awkward angle. Curtains need to be fixed to close properly-we used a hair clip to properly close them. Pool was decent, clean enough for me to jump in but should be clearer. Temperature of water was at a perfect temperature, warm enough to be very comfortable swimming. Jacuzzi water was very clean & the night before it was full of people. BUT one of pool ladders is missing 2 steps-major safety hazard-must get fixed immediately !!! Mats around pool area need to always be centered & not to a side. I moved one to center, as tile does get slippery around gated pool area. Breakfast buffet was decent & but we tried to order dinner Tuesday evening staff at bar/restaurant was very rude-guy told my husband "what do you want" uh, hello, that is not how you greet someone!!! When you first drive up to this Holiday Inn, it does not look appealing, does not look like a IHG brand BUT inside does look decent, correctly decorated & professional. Could use new carpeting in rooms & hallways- but otherwise acceptable. Oh! & Room was very spacious, we stayed in room 1021.

We checked in last night, our room was very hot. I tried to get the thermostat to cool but every 10-20mins it would turn back to heat. At 4:30am after not getting any sleep I finally had enough and went to the front desk, he gave me a new room and I went to sleep. Next day(today) I wake up and no hot water. Freezing cold. I go to the front desk again and he gives me a new room and tells me to let him know if there are any problems. This new room now has no working A/C AND no hot water. I've paid about $500 to stay here for two nights uncomfortable, hot, and unable to shower. I asked about a new room and he said they would have someone check my A/C and that everyone is having problems with the hot water... you should NOT be allowed to charge people this amount for this experience. I called customer support and she said she'd give me a call back. That was over an hour ago now. This is horrible.

I really enjoyed the breakfast and loved having so many great dining options nearby. The cleaning crew also did an excellent job keeping my room spotless every day. However, the bar service needs improvement. I had to repeatedly call the bartender over just to order beers and shots. Great stay overall, but the bar staff needs to be more attentive to guests

This was my 2nd stay. Front desk check in is ok but the layout of the hotel is so complicated they do walk you to which elevator to take. The rooms are small with small bathrooms and beds. As for the restaurant, its very slow yet the service is also slow and communication with the only front of house employee is challenging. The drinks are very expensive and food is ok but no wow factor. For location there is a gas station nearby as well as a few other resturaunts. I would stay here again if in the area.

We checked into the hotel, and the receptionist gave us a room that was already occupied by someone else. We went back to the receptionist and informed him that the room was already in use, but he said the system showed it as available. There was a mini fridge in the room, but no water bottles were provided. The next morning around 5 a.m., my husband went to get water bottles from the vending machine, but the machine was out of order. He then went to the receptionist, who told him they did not have any water bottles available, and the hotel mart was closed. The carpet smelled bad when we entered the room — it had a moldy odor. I would not recommend this hotel.

First room given to us smelled of mold. AC did not work, was cooler in the corridor outside of room. Replacement room door barely opened without force. Our door wasnt closed after the room was cleaned, anyone could've walked in while we were out. Didn't have hot water for a morning shower. Shower head is mounted at 5ft.
