Crocker

We went to Crocker's located on the main street of Balboa Island to take away a chai latte and coffee. Good service and very good chain latte. The café/restaurant is warm and well decorated with tickets ($) hanging on the walls and ceiling. Wide choice of pastries. I recommend Crocker's.
Every year when I come to the island I make a special point of coming to Crocker’s. I always order the Chicago hot dog. Having grown up in Chicago I know how a Chicago hot dog should taste like. The poppyseed bun, the green relish, yellow mustard, the hot peppers and onions and absolutely NO KETCHUP! The staff is friendly and attentive and it’s fun to read the dollar bills plastered all over the walls. A must go on Balboa Island.
If you’re looking for a delightful place to grab a bite at Balboa Island, Crocker's should definitely be at the top of your list of places to eat in the Newport area! The owner is very helpful and made us laugh! Definitely great customer service and suggestions. What we tried: 🥣 Clam Chowder (so good) 🐟 Beer Battered Cod (light & crispy) 🥒 Fried Zucchini (great substitute for fries) 🥧 Pecan pie (warmed) Everything was delicious!!
We discovered that Crocker's serves more than $10 hot dogs quite by accident. After having lived here in OC and in Philly for 12+ years, and really enjoying the diner offerings in Philly, we walked into Crocker's to check out their baked goods. Wow! Their pies are outstanding, even at $9 a slice, that slice would feed 2 - 4 people depending on how hungry they are. And their brownies, let me just extoll their virtues for a moment - fudgey, yet with a crisp crust, and not just plain brownies, they have exceptionally fancy ones as well. But this is just their dessert offerings, which a good diner in Philly would also have. (I haven't tried their cakes and cookies but bet they are amazing as well). Main courses include that $10 hot dog, chili fries that rival every diner in PA and NJ I've ever eaten at, burgers that are served on fabulous brioche buns, salads that are crammed full of stuff besides lettuce. The pulled pork sandwich is excellent, also served on their delicious buns, but this time the bun was topped with cheese melted into the top - yum. Unfortunately, Crocker's doesn't keep diner hours (ours was open 24 hours a day before Covid) but while they are open they are serving seriously good diner food.
Amazing Veggie Sandwich, homemade coleslaw and a perfect picture on the world going by! Staff great,Just the kind of sandwich I was hoping for!
Came with a lot of expectations, from hear say the girls and supervisor was rude and unfriendly taking order just about mid afternoon. Was disappointed given we wha d come with family to promote local business. It takes only a smile and attitude to be nice and kind. So sad Corckers you let us down
Very good portions excellent staff. A truly down home feeling. The mega burger will feed plus leftovers. Excellent choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Name after the owner’s grandfather who was the fire chief on Balboa island. Excellent pastries deserts also. A must stop
We loved our lunch at Crocker's. The waldorf salad croissant was wonderful and the fries very good. Not a lot of space to sit, but we found the tray tables on the outside wall to be kind of fun as we watched the world go by. I kind of hoped for a bit more of an updated menu, but it was still the most interesting place we could find in Balboa. And the service was wonderful.
This hole-in-the-wall is a pair of restaurants, one side is mostly a breakfast and bakery spot with coffee (Crocker's Abundant) and the other side is mostly fancy hotdogs, sausages, and other sandwiches. You can order off both menus on both sides. Seating is limited. The staff are so nice and accommodating. And most importantly, the food is delish! Our group had a variety of items off the menu, plus some desserts from the case. Prices are reasonable. Definitely the best casual spot in a touristy area.
Tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant on Marine ave. Food is outrageously good and the conversation articulate and interesting.
