This place is truly special—so open, welcoming, and filled with good energy. Steven is a wonderful person who genuinely cares about everyone. You’re surrounded by jungle, falling asleep to the sound of frogs and waking up to birdsong. It’s an unforgettable experience.

Loved this place. A bit off the beaten path but I really liked driving all over this island. Short walk to the beach. I slept with the windows open and just a bedsheet and the sleep was amazing. Close (20mins) to Pahoa for a gym and groceries.

Loved everything. We stayed in the sunrise room and it was comfortable. The house is pretty much open air with window mounted fans in the rooms. I loved the sounds of the tree frogs and birds, though they can be quite loud. The shared bathrooms were spacious and clean. I, personally, enjoyed being in the shared portion of the house more than I would have in the more private suite. We had very nice housemates. The kitchen was well stocked, even with a countertop icemaker. Note, I can be very seriously allergic to most (but not all) cats, but the resident feline hostess did not affect me in any way and she was always a pleasure. She was happy to be petted, but did not demand it. A purrrfect hostess. The beach is an easy walk to, but note, that the "trail" going down the cliff can be a daunting climb for many. If you are sightseeing, this location will add to drive times. Driving around the island does take longer than most expect. The closest town is Pahoa at about 30 minutes. Pahoa has a nice supermarket and several good restaurants and bakeries. We enjoyed the guesthouse as a homebase, but can see why many returning guests just relax and chill here for their vacations.

Awesome nudist and LGBT-friendly hostel just a 10-minute walk from one of the coolest nudist beaches I’ve ever seen. This place has self-check-in, and it feels like home with access to a fully equipped kitchen, living room, porch, gorgeous gardens, and the star of the show—a wooden hot tub (you can remove and replace the cover whenever you use it). It’s got two bathrooms and an outdoor shower. I stayed in the Sunshine Room, which was super comfy and private. During my week-long stay, there were often straight couples around, but that didn’t stop anyone who wanted to go nude. Every Monday is gay day at Kehena Beach, followed by a BBQ party in the hostel’s gardens where the local LGBT community shows up. The owners are amazing for creating this spot and fostering such a great community vibe.

One of those special places that make memories worth remembering over and over again.

Thia is a phenomenal place to stay. It's quiet, off the beaten path, close to a nude black sand beach, and the vibe is great. Each bedroom gives you a very different experience. I stayed in the Volcano room, which is the largest and has door access to the backyard where the outdoor shower, hot tub, and second restroom are located. The jungle sounds at night lull you to sleep. I haven't had such good sleep in a long time. They host a potluck party onsite Mondays, and you meet a lot of cool locals. Stephen is a great property manager and makes sure you are welcome. HIGHLY recommended. I can't wait to go back.

My only regret with this place is that I never stayed here sooner. Stephan greeted us with a warm aloha on arrival. Accommodations were clean and exceeded expectation. Charming rustic home nestled between lush tropical gardens and gorgeous black sand beach. Home has everything you need for your stay and the beach. Community is inviting with lots of cool activities to partake in or simply soak in the energy of the island. Can't wait to come book soon, this could be my new weekend getaway spot. My girlfriend and I stayed there for over a week, and it was the perfect end to our Hawaii vacation. The location is unbeatable, and the property is beautiful. The friendly atmosphere and the camaraderie with the other guests were simply perfect. A big thank you also goes to the property manager, Steven. He's always there to lend a helping hand. I had an amazing stay here. The house and my room were cute and well taken care of. Matt and Stephen were kind and friendly hosts. The location is beautiful and close to Kehena Beach. This was a wonderful escape in paradise and I hope to return.

Room: Everything from the bathrooms, to the rooms, to the kitchen were extremely clean. I was hesitant about coming into a place like this but I was pleasantly surprised. I happened to find the morning and weekly checklists and there’s a lot of love that goes into this place. Location: You don’t get a much better location than this. Situated across the street from a nude beach, and far enough away from city life, that you truly get a sense of nature. Hilo is only a 45 minute drive away. There’s a phenomenal outdoor shower and hot tub too. Service: The owner creates a sense of community that you don’t find at many places. There’s a weekly BBQ which he invites the entire community to simply connect with one another. In this day and age, we need each other more than ever. I was also pleasantly surprised by how respectful and kind the other guests were. You don’t get a much better place than here.
